I would like to thank those on CPF for turning me on to these lights. I asked for advice and got some real good info here. These are some photos of my new OD Fenix L2D Q5 Premium and OD EO1.

All I have to say is holly cow. The L2D can toss a ton of light. The Cree LED is the everthing people say. I decided to compare the new Fenix lights to some of my other lights. Here is the line up. Now keep in mind I don't have charts or very good beam shots.

To keep things on the level I just used my LED Inova T3 vs. L2D and E01 vs. Garrity. Both key chain lights take a single AAA. The L2D used 2 AA and the Inova T3 two CR123. The G2Z is not an LED so I didn't take any beam shots. However it can't really toss more light than the T3.

The E01.

I found the light output didn't look that purple to me so not certain what people are talking about. Good over spill on the E01. This is what I like in a keychain light. Plus the E01 is very small.

The Garrity.

It has a point spot but very little over spill. Plus too big for the keychain. All reasons why the E01 is better. THE E01 puts out more light.

L2D Q5 on high.

As stated I am not good at beam shots however trust me. Turbo is crazy bright. Infact even on High the L2D was more than a match for my 2-year old Inova T3. Or at least it seemed that way. The light looks nice and white to me. The over spill and spot looked nice too. Hard to believe all this from 2 AA.

Inova T3.

Less over spill and less light than the L2D Q5. The Fenix is smaller too. I still like the Inova however the L2D Q5 is much better.

That is about it. Not really a review. I just wanted to say thanks for the advice guys. :twothumbs

Congrats on your Fenix purchases! Although no longer my EDC, the L2D Q5 is still one of my favorites. And BTW, :welcome:.

Aloha,

Congrats!! Welcome to the family of Fenix owners. I was so impressed with my L2D Q5 I bought a bunch more Fenix lights.

I too love my Fenix E01 and find the beam very useful. My favorite light right now is my Fenix L1D, although I am going to buy the LiteFlux LF5XT / NiteCore D10. Lots of great light to look forward to!!

:welcome:

I'm glad you like your L2d. There are a lot of very good lights in the horizon, so stick around.

One reason why I went with the L2D is I would just need an L1D body for EDC. The L2D would be used for my winter pulk sled trips and other outdoor adventures so I don't get boxed in or have to backtrack from a hill too much for the pulk sled to handle. Better to see far ahead if pushing in late after dark. I got the lights in OD and been looking for an OD L1D body. Have only found black and even then in one place for just the body. Money is tight so I like the idea of just getting a L1D body for EDC. If anyone can point me in the right place for finding just the body (no tail cap). I guess if OD is in short supply than black would work. Not certain how my OD would handle this however.

A real nice lights. I will have to spend more time with them to see how they hold up in the field. They seem well made. Even on low there is enough light for camp work if the headlamp dies for some reason.

I'm glad you like the light!

As for a OD 1 AA body, I'm not sure where to find one. I thought Lighthound had some but I didn't find it.

Wow. Never realised how nice the L2D looks in olive.... already have one in black, so can't justify buying a new one. However, will get my next fenix (well, that'll be the TK11, so the one after that) in olive after seeing those photos!

I have my first flashlight today: Fenix L2D Q5 Premium. I am so happy with the light, thanks to all CPF friends.
I wish all things in life can be as good as this light :)

Sorry for going off topic here but does anyone know why the lumen count is different between Fenix-store.com site and lighthound site? Fenix-store.com has the L2D's turbo at 180 lumens while lighthound.com has the same lights turbo mode at 135 lumens. Who has the correct specs here ? I like Lighthounds prices as well :twothumbs!

lighthound has the CE version- P4, or possibly Q2 (P4 are getting tricky to buy in bulk) instead of Q5 bin. Fenix-store has the Q5 version, which is more efficient, thus the higher lumens.

Ahhh, thank you for the clarification.

I also think that when the fenix-store site is updated with new versions of some flashlights, some of the references to previous versions sometimes get left on the updated pages, causing some confusion as to which flashlight is actually being described on the page. If you'll look closely at the fenix-store page linked by GrooveRite, you'll see what I mean. I might be misinterpreting the flashlight name references, but I remember having that same interpretation difficulty when I bought the L2D Premium 100s and not knowing if I was looking at the older CE version or the newer version (based on the terms used on the page). Hope that makes sense...and again, I might just be misreading the references on the fenix-store pages.

When I look at the fenix-store page for the Fenix Digital L2D Black Premium Q5, the description names the CE version and to the right of the page the photo that can be clicked to enlarge is the Premium 100 version. And near the bottom of the page, the photo shows L2D CE. Even though the flashlights look the same, I'm not sure the names for the Premium 100 and CE belong on the same page as the Q5...or again, it's possible I'm not interpreting what I'm seeing correctly. Maybe it's legitimate to show all on the same page as though they're the same item -- but to me, it seems a bit confusing. (I know that some of the images are manufacturer provided, so that might partially confuse things.)

That's two great Fenix's you got there. The L2D Q5 was my first Fenix too. I love it. I bought a L1D 1xAA Black Finish Spare Body and Tailcap and a Fenix Battery Storage Cap from Fenix-Store. This way, you can keep batteries in the body you're not using and just swap the head whenever you feel like it. It's extremely conveinient (and fun:)). I see they have the L1D 1xAA Olive Finish Spare Body and Tailcap for $24, you can get 8% off of that with the CPF8 code. Fenix-Store is the only place I can find that has the olive color L1D body. I know it has the tail cap too, but you may have to buy the set if you can't find the body by itself. Here's a pic of my L2D/L1D set:

Welcome to the Fenix fold.

I took a lot of time researching flashlights for my needs before deciding on the L2D Q5 Premium, and I've got a TK11 preorder at the Fenix Store as well. I swapped out the reverse switch for a forward one, which gives it a momentary mode that I love, and I did not lose any of the modes (you just have to press the switch lightly to switch modes, or turn it off and on rapidly). Enjoy your lights!
