I'm a electronics/flashlight modding noob, but I still wanted to mod my maglite 2D.
Since I live in Sweden, I don't have access to the parts required for a ROP or anything really advanced (don't wanna pay customs), so I smashed a (burnt out) "white-star" bulb and soldered a luxeon star to the "wires" inside the bulb.
Some info:
Power source: 2 CR123A batteries
Driver: A LMT317T regulates current to 320-330 mA. (Probably inefficient)
Luxeon info:
Luxeon Star 1.2 W White
45 Lumen
140*
3.42V
The flashlight works fine and it's much brighter than the original, so I'm happy . I'll post some pics later, because the luxeon is in a slightly tilted position right now...
Anyway, the current is fine, but the voltage is ~5.5V without a luxeon in it, which is 5.5-3.42= 2.08V too much.
So I need a (2.08/0.35)=~5.94 ohm resistor to burn away the excess voltage, right?
I wasn't really serious about this mod, but it beats the original 2D IMO.
Got any tips on stores in the EU where I can buy LEDs/batteries/lenses?
