Hi all

I've been searching the net for diy plans on how to build an led torch, just came across this site and think that this is the right place to post some questions i have.

I am not experienced with this, but my dad in law knows a bit about the electrics and can make all of the components for the body of the light. So what i am mostly interrested in is which parts i should use for the best light. how many lumens, how many degrees on the color temp., which reflector and which battery type vs. runtime etc etc.

I am gonne use the torch for nightdives spearfishing, so i am interessted in a torch that can produce a lot of light in a tight beam, maybe with a single led making a litlle flood?.

runtime should be min 3 hours and the battery pack must be rechargeable ofcourse.

hope to hear your input, and maybe some issues that i need to consider in order to not make any stupid newbie mistakes that i will regret later on.

besides i am aiming to keep the costs low, so basicly i'm looking for the best value for money components.

Keeping reading the posts here and im sure all will become bright!!:grin2:

Welcome to the CPF and more specifically this little corner called Dive Lighting...

I have been looking at all the threads inhere ;P

The problem is that i dont understand any of the technical details u refer too.

well - as packhorse build one i will try to copy that setup.

so i'm thinking about using 4 of these leds for the spot : Cree XR-E 7090 Q5 Emitter, White, 228 Lumen, 90°

and 1 Cree MC-E LED, M bin, Star, White, 752lm, 4 chips, 110° for the flood

does this sound stupid?

if not which batterypack would u guys advice if i need 2 hours of runtime on max? and is it at all possible to squeze in that amount of battery power in a handheld torch?

and is it possible to have different modes like this?:

1st mode - 100% on all leds
2nd mode - 50% on all leds
3rd mode - 20% on all leds

4th mode 100% on the SPOT LEDS only

5th mode 100% on the FLOOD LEDS only

I'm also going to look into making a dive light. I have an HID currently but would like the extra time afforded by and LED. Love the forum!
