I've been awaiting this day! My LF HO-M6R arrived and when I went to put it in my Surefire M4 head, the dang bulb was too big! The bulb actually fits into the hole, but the metal pin/tower part won't slide into the hole. Anyone else have this trouble? Can I carefully bore out the hole in my head or what? Please help!

The original bulb is an MN61 btw.

Dan, there's something definitely odd about that M4 head of yours. You reported before that it had a lexan lens, which I think means it is quite an old model. The new ones, and all the ones I have seen, are pyrex. Maybe the reflector hole diameter spec was also changed slightly since that one was made, but that seems very unlikely to me. I can't think what is wrong here.

The HO-M6R was specifically made to fit into the M6 turbohead, which is the same head as on the M4 and M3T, so it *should* fit yours.

Let's see some pics of it. Also, it might be worth a PM to Size15s just to ask if he could look at this thread and comment - he is CPF's Surefire expert, and if anyone can shed some light on this it will be him.

That's interesting. It must be a very rare head I suppose. The problem with enlarging the hole is getting metal shavings behind the lens. If you are able to remove the lens without any problems then opening the hole just enough that the LF lamp still fits snugly, would be a simple operation on a drill press. I hope that works since you're probably eager to use it Dan.

When you have a pic hosted on imageshack or photobucket etc, you just post its url inside the handles shown below in red:

{img}url{/img}

except you replace the curly { } brackets by straight [ ] ones.

OK, got the pics.

It looks perfectly normal to me, and in nice condition too. The knurling is slightly different to mine, and the shape could be a little different... but that could be a photographic effect.

Have you tried a MN-series lamp assembly in it? Preferably a new one, rather than the original bulb that came with it?

If the MNxx bulb fits, I would say that the Lumens Factory one is faulty. If neither fits, then I would say you need Size15s to see what he thinks the problem could be.

From the pictures above, it looks normal. My HO-M6R came last week and it went into the socket just nicely. Its a perfect fit, not wobbly or anything like that.

Do you have a vernier scale to measure the internal diameter of the socket hole?

Can you post also the LA that came with the head.......and also the HO-M6R LA as well.

Pics of the bulbs posted as requested. Sorry about the size, but I'm still learning how to post pics.

Sorry, no way to precisely measure the diameters at this time. Trust me though, I've tried every angle and the HO-M6R will not fit:scowl:. I'm begining to think I have either a very old or very unique M4 head. Anyone interested in a trade or buy???

But did that MN21 in your pic fit? If it did, I think you have a faulty HO-M6R.

If you decide to sell this head, you will have to do so in the MarketPlace - no feelers allowed here.

The MN61 in the pic fits just perfect in my M4 head. I also pulled an MN10 out of my M3 weapoms light. Even though it is shorter than the MN61, it still fits into the M4 head just as perfect.

I think I'll return the LF HO-M6R for another one. It has to be the lamp assembly itself. I can put it in up to the metal stem and then only a fraction of the way in before it stops advancing. Thanks for everyones help. And yes, if I sell the M4 head, I'll put it in the market place.. thanks for the heads up on that one DM51.

uh....I would refrain from any sort of drilling until size15s can verify that your not handling an antiquated piece of PK engineering.

My "Magnumlight" M6's head allows the MN15, MN21, MN20, MN61 to slide in with ease but its a bit snug with the LF-HO-M6R... I think it may very well be an older version incompatibility issue:whistle:

If everything else fits (SF MN bulbs) then there must be an issue with the LF bulb. Sending it back for a replacement should be covered.

I'd be tempted to chuck the lamp in a lathe and use some
fine emerycloth or sandpaper to remove a few thousandth's
of material from the stem. the next one may be the same way
if you have a extremely tight tolerance head. Can't really blame
SF for that, there lamp work's OK so it sound's.

Jeff,

I had the same problem with a LF HOM4 bulb. All my other SF and LF bulbs would fit:shrug:. A little scotch-brite or emery cloth on the aluminum of the lamp fixed it right up. Be careful with the lamp though.... you don't want a :ohgeez: Good luck.
