I'mGatMan!
Newly Enlightened
Okay, so a while back I waltzed my way in here after having seen Don's lights a few times around the net, and began asking questions about where to begin my oddyssey. I was looking for the proverbial "do-it-all" light; something I could use any time during the day and never feel underpowered. I also needed it to be subtle enough that I could wander into my soon-come daughter's room, and not wake her. After many suggestions from the good people here (and Js' shining endorsement in his articulate review), I had an idea of where to start and went about seeking out a LunaSol 20.
Wouldn't ya know that the LS20 I bought arrived the day my daughter was to be born. As a matter of fact, my mother-in-law returned to our house to feed the dogs and it arrived while she was there. Some of you may have seen the picture of my new LS20 laying next to my little lady after just being born. She'll get a copy of the picture when she inherits the light.
Well, I've been using my first LS20 (yes, there is a minty second one sitting in the safe) for over 3 months now, and o can honestly say I've wrung it through it's paces. Moreover, let me be frank--Don's LunaSol 20 is the best, most oft-used tool I own.
I don't say this lightly. I can be a bit of a snob when it comes to my gadgets: Infiniti, Apple, Busse, LMT, Rick Hinderer, Saddleback Leather, Peter Atwood--I may have champagne taste on a beer budget, but I'm also aware that if I buy well the first time, I won't have to buy again.
This light has never left my side since i've received it. I have used it numerous times daily, from pacing through my darkened home, to connecting cables in my classroom, to disassembling and repairing my clothes dryer, to reading at night. I've used it as a candle for an hour at a time, and never found it hot to the touch. In those three months I've only had to replace the battery twice, have yet to apply lube at all. This light is just phenomenal.
The ergonomics of the light and clip are exemplary. It can be swallowed up inside a pocket easily, and sits unobtrusively when clipped in. I added a small paracord fob with a Starlingear Gasser bead notted on, and that made the ergos even more user-friendly. I can pin the fov between two fingers and easily apply pressure to the pistob, and the light stays securely in my grip. The fob also makes the light easier to grasp and pull from my pocket.
On top of the LS20's usefulness as a tool, it is also an aesthetic work of art. The machining is just beautiful, and even after three months of daily pocket carry, it is still in great shape. Don knows what he's doing, and I agree that these lights are meant to be used hard.
I know I haven't said anything here that hasn't been said before. The fact is that Don's work is superlative, and that's why he has the reputation he has. Add to that the fact that he is humble, and open, and you have just another reason to support his work.
I am proud to be an owner of my four great McGizmo lights, and look forward to adding a Sundrop of some sort when I can.
Don, keep doing what you do, brother. As long as I can afford to, there will always be a McGizmo light in my pocket.
Regards,
Jason
