Looks normal enough right?
lets look under the hood.

Any guesses as to whats so special about it? :)

I'm not seeing anything really. I think the IC is for constant on so nothing special there. I see you cut a little bit of the casing, I see a drop of epoxy, and I see an orange thing that I have no idea what it is. In one of the pics the LED looks like a 10mm LED to me. Overall I can't put my finger on anything really.

WHAT IS IT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

EDIT: I see Alaric Darconville posted while I was writing. I like his idea.

the microcontroller is taken out of a LF2XT, the LED is a 10MM quad-die and on max it uses one 2016 every five minutes

seriously, you have to mod it to 2032 also for longer runtime :sssh:

Gosh, i wish!

maybe this picture will give more insight.

A little patience and imagination goes a long way.

yup... its the Circuit board from an X-light micro. I always liked the functionality of the LRI microlights, but recently have become facinated with the Pencil beam of these 10mm lights. Bearing in mind how people upgrade thier Microlights with GS/DS LEDs. I made this.

The orange thing is just a peice of silicone (left over from trimminga tail boot) so that you can squeeze the light to turn it on and off.

Yup, it has to full functionality of the Microlights, but now with throwy 10mm. :D

Looks like it would be very cool! :twothumbs

BUT now we need some beamshots!!!!! :poke:

Crenshaw--where did you fetch the 10mm LED?
I bought the 10mm fuaxtons from Dealextreme. So the 10mm led and the body are actually the original light.

Beamshots as soon as i get some spare batteries for my DS photon microlight...needs to be a fair comparison, on new batteries. :)

Beamshots!

Test Subjects:

DSC05014.jpg

Photon Freedom with DS on left, and 10mm on right, both max, batteries on DS measure 3.07v and the ones on the 10mm actually measure 2.99v
Lux readings (comparitively) show
about 23.3 lux from the ds
and 170lux from the 10mm.

Ceiling bounce (0.1lux ambient light)
0.5 for the DS
0.8 for the 10mm

Lower exposure
DSC05015.jpg

Minimum was actually far too low for my camera to catch...but you can just see that the 10mm puts out correspondingly more light on low.

I was expecting a light mounted on a 10mm pistol from the title. ;)

Great mod!
Is it just me or is the beam from the 10 mm LED oval?
Have you tried any other LEDs?
I took mine apart too... any idea what the schematic for that board would be? I have no idea how the negative terminal is connected to the chip/button side...

well i DO know that its patented by LRI....;)

basically any LED that you can trim the leads down and that will fit the board, you can use it.

I might want to use a RED 10mm led there for night vision, but i gotta go get some RED leds first.

The beam from the 10mm is circular, i guess, its just the angle which im taking the photo
