Ok just building lights is an addictive thing. I have an idea for two more. Lets just hope that I can survive the wife.

Some of you saw my batter pack that I made form a Pelican case.

Here are some pics of the completed light. I went with two 5 degree optics and one reflector to give it just a little reach.

Pics of the guts? Assembly pictures? That looks awesome. How deep can you lathe it down around the head? Also, how did you attached the end cap to it?

Sorry for the questions, I want to do a Maglite mod when I have finished my achesalot light and this one turned out beautifully!

I have a step by step of the battery pack that I need to move to my website. I will post that shortly (will shoot for tonight).

I also have some assembly pics that I can include.

I am not sure about how far one can lathe on a mag head. This is a 2d head so its not as much as a C head if memory serves. Mirage_man did all the machining on this housing for me. He does a great job and is fantastic and doing it.

The endcap just screws on. To make sure I could do that I used a 6" length of stranded flexible wire off of the LEDs so that it basically twists while I screw the end cap on. I know this isnt the best but I dont see myself taking this thing apart alot.

I havent done any other models other than mags, I am working on a couple of custom lights now but they are still on paper.

I like it turned out pretty ok considering the tools that I had at my disposal.

That's a good looking mod. I look forward to seeing the inards.

Awesome, I look forward to seeing that!

Any idea what the housing weighed with the machining done? It sure did turn out well. Hopefully I will have access to a lathe in the future...

It just twists on? That is perfect, I guess I just assumed that the threads used to attach the shaft/body to the head and the tail cap to the shaft/body would be different. If you can just take off the body and screw it back together then this is brilliant!

Thanks for the info, and I would say that it turned out more than just okay!

The threads in the head and the threas on the tail cap are different size.

I had mirage_man cut down the body and rethread the small piece of body for it to fit in the head.

I will try to get some stuff moved tonight over to my webspace and posted.

Here is the first interior picture, I ended up not using the microdeans on the power and button side. While assembling it I accidently knocked off a reflector so I decided to use an optic instead.

This is a dry fit also, thats why not all of the connectors have heat shrink on them.

Actually this is the only interior picture.
I am planning on taking some beam shots tonight.

Here are a couple of beam shots.
3 seconds, ISO 200 f3.5 but had to bump up the exposure +2/3

Man those beam shots look good! It looks like you were able to get a perfect balance of flood and spot beams with the reflector/optic combo. Nice!

I really like the initial looks of the light. That was the one problem with the previous light using three optics I wanted a brighter spot to be able to focus on.

I had a car accident in jan so its keeping me off of the bike until beginning for April. I cant wait to try it.

Did you keep the plastic lens that came with the maglight? Hard to tell from your pics.

Hi CrackerKorean
The Maglite conversion looks great...you mention your website.....how do i get there?

Do you have a parts list?

I actually never got to building the page, I started another page in hopes of selling some custom housings that I developed with no luck.
http://www.engineeringluminescence.com/

As for a parts list this is what I used.

5 degree optics (ledsupply)
3x seoul p4
mag D heatsink (cant remember the site of the top of my head, somebody help me out here)
Driver (taskled, bflex)
2D Mag
The momentary button is one that I got off of ebay (had to purchase 100 of them)
14.8v Li-Ion battery (battery space)

Thats pretty much it, if you have any questions let me know.
