Need 12 AA Battery Holder

I have a FM battery holder for 12 NiMh 1.2 volt batteries in series which has crumbled where the positive post connects to the base. I need another or spare parts and FM does not have either. Does anyone have a suggestion of a battery holder for a 3D Mag which has 4 channel bores and is used to make a Mag138.

thanks.

To further complicate the request is it must fit inside a 3D mag and be capable of accepting a male charging connector like some of the FM products. If I can not salvage what is left of my original holder I will experiment with making a battery pack using 1-1/4" heat shrink tubing. Each of the four stacks of three will be turned in the opposite direction to form 12 cells in series. Then run a (+) wire to the middle connector of the hotdriver and another (+) wire back down the stack to the bottom to connect to the female charging jack. Take a (-) wire to the frame of the light and another (-) wire to the charging jack and there you have it. Put it together and plug your smart charger in and away you go. Sounds simple??

Modamag makes them and sells them through the Sandwich Shoppe. PM Ms_SS here on the board and see if they have more in stock. If they do, she will put them up at the Shoppe.

I am familiar with Modamag's battery holders and have several. But, I have never been able to attach a charging jack, and the springs are too light for high discharge applications using 100w bulbs. You just don't need springs. Thanks for the reply though.

I'm just thinking out loud, but couldn't you try having CheapBatteryPacks.com buld you a pack that would fit? They have custom option if not listed on their site, where you submit your schematic. I think the only thing they would need is to have charging wires come down from underneath end plates which you would have to solder into an FM type of pin connector.

You could show them images of these packs (without the wire plug) in terms of the contact end plates...and with 4 cell configuration x 3 high.

Great idea. I just tried soldering CBP 1650's last night to make my own battery pack with some shrink wrap I have, but no matter what I just can not get the solder to stick to the battery tops. Plus the possibility of damaging the battery.

Those are some fine battery packs. Too bad AWR's versions never came about also.

I've seen a video on pack building. They used a Dremel with a sanding drum on the surface before soldering.

I tried that and it still will not stick. Maybe the flux but soldering on the alloy on a battery top is not easy.

I soldered leads onto batteries years ago and I can confirm it's a huge pain the butt, even sanded and roughened up. In the end it only worked when I got really lucky but I didn't have to worry about the cells being damaged by heat.

Ah Haaaa!

Conductive Silver Expoxy is the answer to soldering battery terminals. I'll make my own and post a picture of it. :naughty:

yeah i said something few weeks ago (soldering on battery ends), most folk .....

but manage to do with some flux and high silver contents solder wires ...

will be glad to see yr post soon - dabear :)
