Currently have several of Elektro Lumens lights including the Fire Sword and it is brutal to say the least:devil:. My question is using the 18650 what is the baddest boy on the planet at this time. Need the high temp color of the LED because of the glare issue but am looking for something to light up things at 500 yards to 1k. HID is out because of the warm up issues and the Fire Sword is very very good but sometimes I need a little more focused beam.

Any ideas here???

Thanks,

Dave

In terms of sheer light output the Firesword is the biggest baddest one that I know of.

500 yards is not a realistic function for LEDs. (or anything really, at that distance you're not going to see good contrast on anything without optics to aid your puny human eyes) ;)

If the startup on HID is an issue, then buy a better HID that doesn't require large startup times like a Polaron or a Maxabeam. Or start building your own hotwire.

The best LED thrower is going to be a cree behind an aspheric lens. You can do a decent cheap one with a M@g and supplies from Kaidomain. But it's still not going to help much at 500 yards.

If you don't mind 4AA batteries you can get in line for one of these(DEFT). 500 yards might work but 1000 is quite a stretch even for the DEFT and most lights regardless of battery and light source.

There are also a few HIDs that have instant strike and re-strike ability, which means they start at a pretty high output and get a bit brighter as they warm up. The only light I remember that does that is the Polarion lights but they aren't 18650 powered and cost quite a bit of money.

You can make a light that does what you want.

Thanks for the input so far! Looked at the thread where the big boy was fading the paint off the car across the street! That is one bad torch I need more info on that one!

The light is used to spot vermin at the ranch among other things and the 4000-4500k really makes a difference esp when using glass at long range to watch for movement.

Cost is always a consideration but with high performance more money is usually required. I also would just love to have something that will "fade the paint" off of my neighbors truck!!!! The Firesword is awesome but after looking around here a while I know that there is something that is so over the top that you need a license to carry it!!:xyxgun:

Hi there Hoss. I am the maker of the DEFT and just noticed we live in the same parts so if you want to meet up I can show you what the DEFT can do. PM me if you are interested.
