miserable state of NJ, actually it is only the pol
I'm looking to purchase a not to expensive flashlight that uses an aspheric lens with a movable head to change the focal length of the lens. It needs to be able to use cr123a one or two. I need some names of brands that do this. When sellers list their flashlights they don't usually say if it has aspheric lens or not. Usually say focusing but then that is some kind of mixed lens like the River Rock 2AA nightfire. So I'm looking for first hand knowledge, btw when it is an aspheric it looks like a fisheye and they don't use a reflector for those that don't know. The more the better so I can pick and choose.

cheetokhan yes that is the idea, however I want a flashlight type. I guess I should change my choices to some other battery type. Or I am starting to think I can make a non adjustable aspheric and just use any old flashlight body. But I really like the option of having a changable focal length to go flood when needed.

One of the guys on here, Packhorse is selling modded aspheric ist dive lights in customs B/S/T the price is reasonable too.

That dive light is perfect and so is that SAR, however they are both made out of unobtainium and out of my meager budget!! I am drooling on my keyboard looking at that dive light, good thing it is water (drool) proof so it can take it!!! I'm now off to the budget section where I have watch the drooling so as not to short out any flashlights!!

Oh, sorry. Don't worry though after enough time here on CPF you'll think nothing of spending upwards of a hundred dollars on a light.:D

RyanA I already got one of those hobbies where I easily spend upwards of a hundred dollars already, I'm trying to not to over do it too much.
Here is a pic of my other costly hobby

Nice... I'm thinking about picking up an AR soon. What upper receiver did you go with. There's so much stuff out there.
Is the AR what you'd like an aspheric lens for? If you need a lot of throw, colaminating optics can provide a good amount of throw. The surefire Kx series heads for e series light and the malkoff m60 dropin for the 6p series lights have a very tight focus.

RyanA for the AR upper receivers you can't go wrong if you buy DPMS, bushmaster, Rock River, armalite and a few others. The upper receiver isn't really that critical as it is essentially just a 1" hole for the bolt carrier to slide in. The bolt locks up inside of a steel barrel extension that is screwed onto the barrel. I've used several brands of uppers without issue.
Yes the aspheric I want is to create an IR illuminator that can go from flood to tight focus, flood is for close room illumination and tight is for distance to be used with my Night Vision scope. I have a "da torch" which is a great distance illuminator however for close work it doesn't go into flood mode as the focusing device doesn't let the aspheric move close enough to the emitter.

ev13wt if you'll notice that lens is a comprimise between aspheric and something else. I have one on a river rock 2AA and it works, however it isn't as good as an aspheric for throw. Maybe though it can be swapped out, thanks for the idea, I'll check it out, it looks good.

If you get an Olight M20, you can get a $3 aspheric lens from Kai. It's not very adjustable. When it is completely tightened down, it turns the beam into something more like an E2DL. To produce an image of the die (completely focus the lens) it needs to be loosened completely off, which will compromise the waterproofing and risk the end of the head coming off.

In my opinion it is worth $3 to produce a different beam like this out of a $100 (or less if you don't get the premium) flashlight.
