Hello guys,

I currently own a sunwayman M40C and it offers a lot of spill, but really sucks at illuminating things in the distance. That's why I am now looking for a very good thrower with tons of light. My only preferences are that the light uses 18650 batteries and has enough spill to actually get an idea of what is around the hotspot if you know what I mean. I don't want something too big like an Olight SR90 or SR91, and my budget is still not decided, but definitely something below the 400 $ mark.

Thanks for your suggestions!

I really love my Eagletac m3c4 XM-L. It is a side by side battery configuration which makes for a nice short compact light. The throw is outstanding. Also, I never realized how handy a diffusor could be. It turns the light into a serious flood light. I think this light is an awesome all around performer. I love the control ring too, mode selection is very easy. There are plenty of output modes for nearly every situation. This is one of the best lights I have ever owned.

I agree with this.

When threads about throw open up I always see big die LED lights run with big reflectors and yes you get 30K lux or so. For the average Joe that is a thrower.

For alot of throw, you have to go old School or custom.

The best LED Reflector thrower is:

Lumapower TurboForce D-Mini lego. It has a CR123 body or 18650 body. The light engine has to be a XR-E R2 and you will get almost 78K lux and 225~250 out the front lumens. This is well over 50% more throw then almost every single XM-L light out there.

Custom:

You can get any Mag build from the Custom section below. Some folks here use big reflectors and overdrive the XM-L like well over 4A to get them to throw.

The other option is the Lamdalight.com 3C VaraPower. Its a 3C Mag with XM-L and does a real 1100 Out the front lumens at 4.5A and 68K lux, but once it settles down due to heat its 850ish stable OTF lumens and 50K lux. Still; impressive thrower with alot of lumens.
