I'm looking for some help with LE potting, and I'm also wondering if there's other compounds that may be a better choice?

Pictured is the only style of LE I have built, the heatsink is an empty aluminum cup...filling the cup with Arctic Alumina is no problem with a flat (single board) driver, but the stacked configuration has me scratching my head. I thought about drilling a fill hole in the side of cup, but then the mixed epoxy has to be transferred to a syringe...that works fine, but it's a pain in the rump.

I also though about filling beween the stacked boards first, let that harden...then I think the fill-the-cup, squeeze out the excess method would work fine, but I'm really looking for a void free fill...Is void free necessary for best performance?

Any ideas?

Here's a site that has plenty of info on potting, but I'm still very green on the subject, so it hasn't helped me much...pottingsolutions.com

Cheers :)

I would suggest:
Fill inbetween the boards and a bit in the cup too, mostly on the bottom and sides. Then insert the potted assembly still wet in the cup. Have a tiny hole also in the side to remove the remainder or you could wipe it off from the bottom of the board if the holes were not soldered shut...

Cheers ! :)

EDIT: Nice link to pottingsolutions.com, thanks !
