Hey everyone. Found this site when I was searching for some reviews on flashlights. Alright, so I never knew there was so much stuff you can do to flashlights and am just looking to buy a stock light that I can use for work, don't wanna do any upgrading to it and all that although some of the lights you guys have look insane. I recently graduated the Police Academy and am looking for a light I can carry on my belt. I have been looking at the Surefire 6P LED, as well as the G2 LED...what is the difference between the two besides material!? Also interested in the Streamlight TL-2 LED being it has a steel clip on it that I can put on my mag pouch, but not sure how bright it is and have heard Surefire is the only way to go. Can anyone help me out!? I appreciate it guys!

Get yourself either a....

SureFire G2 LED
SureFire 6P LED
Pelican LAPD light
or...a Fenix T1 (which I don't own of the ones mentioned).

I would recommend a drop modification for the G2 or 6P. You'll like it and it's worth it. All of the lights will work well for you as a police officer. This is coming from a former LEO instructor, so I wouldn't recommend a flashlight that I wouldn't feel comfortable staking my own life on out on the street with.

First off, a few questions to narrow down the search.

How much abuse will the light see?
Price?
Batteries?
Output?
Size?
Multimode?

Besides the body material, there isn't much difference between the 6PL and G2L. If you are looking at output though, those aren't the lights to pick.

If you like the clip, look at the Dereelight CL1H.

For the TL-2 swapping the Luxeon in the light for a current gen LED would at least double the output. Go for something with a current gen LED because they will provide more light or more runtime(or both depending on how the LED is driven).

I'd also suggest reading the Welcome Mat if you have time. It will clarify many things.

:welcome:

Man, you guys are good...and quick! Thanks for all the replies so far. The abuse won't be too bad...I mean I'll use it on patrol with me, so just the usual taking it out whenever I need to light something up. I have a maglite in the patrol car but just wanted to get something that I'll always have on me. Price, I'm looking to spend around $100.00. Output...well, I'd like it to be bright enough to light up a dark room that I'm entering if I don't have my patrol cars light with me. Size, well...the TL-2 LED and the 6PL look just about to be the perfect size, nothing much bigger than that.

Also, thanks for WelcomeMat link, that'll help explain things a lot! HAHA...thanks again guys, and keep the input coming!

:D :grin2:  ... Don't mind me. I'm just thinking about the look on your face the first time you've put away your "big gun" maglite thinking you don't need so much light at the moment. And then switching on a 6P with a Malkoff drop-in (or equivilant)...

Potential quote from first timer flashaholic: "Holy crap!"

I wish I never joined this site cause I can tell this is going to be a addiction. Anyway, I think I'm settled on either a Surefire 6PL or a G2L. Can anyone help me with my final decision? I like the G2L cause its a little bit cheaper, but is the 6PL going to perform any better? Anyone?
I appreciate the help...you guys are great on here.

Performance is the same, but for a lower price then the 6PL, the Dereelight CL1H would have more light and two modes.

How it works as an LEO light, I'd ask some of the members.

Out of the two lights you are thinking of, either one would work. From what I know, they both have a metal bezel so you could use brighter drop-ins without having to worry about heat, but the 6PL would have more metal to act as a heatsink(metal body) so it might be better if you plan on buying brighter LED drop-ins.
