I've been carrying a Fenix P2D for a couple years and I've grown tired of how "unreliable" it is. I can no longer use the turbo/strobe mode because the head is frozen (not that I need those modes), and I keep turning it on inadvertently when reaching into my pocket. I love having the 3 outputs to select from and the beam profile and color are great.
So in selecting a new EDC I would like to meet these requirements:
-Small (no bigger than P2D)
-Common battery (AAA, AA, CR123)
-Reliable - NO CLICKIES!
-Splash resistant/dunkable/useful in rain and snow.
-Price-point under $45

Additional preferences:
-Multimode ~15L minimum on the low end, ~60 minimum on the high end. One ~40L mode could be acceptable.
-Textured reflector
-Warm white tint

Right now I am leaning toward a Fenix LD01.
I've had a number of small lights, mostly stuff from deal extreme. I wouldn't place much confidence in those, however, so I would like better quality for reliability.

Thanks!

If you unscrew the tail cap a little on the P2D it will stay off in your pocket.

The LD01 is a great light. The clip allows you to clip it to a visor. It's very handy.

But the twisty part of your flashlight is the part that failed, not the clicky..
No, it is the head stuck to the body, if that is what you mean by "failed."
I can unscrew the clickie tailcap for battery changes. The issue I have with clickies is that I don't like accidental activation. I need a life-saver of a light.
I guess I could loosen a clicky tailcap but it's not preferrable. I'll have to weigh how willing I am to be dilligent in "resetting" it after every use. Hmm.

I think that a couple of years of constant use is enough for a clicky... Every flashlight need to be mantained and if you leave the P1D unlubed it will be fail even sooner than your old P2D.

For $45 there are not many choices... P1D +1

Sounds like Novatac fills the bill.

Doh! Just read your price point. Nevermind.

If you did go with a Fenix light with a clicky, there is no need to reset anything after loosening the tail cap. I'm not trying to push you towards a clicky, just saying. Also, after being in my pocket for a long bicycle ride my LD01 would come apart in my pocket from the pedaling motion and the battery would fall out. Still, it's a great light, don't lube the threads too much. It's so small that even in a sheath, it fits in the pocket.

+1 P1D CE Q5

Impressive light in small package. No clickie. Multi mode that's easy to work. Can find no fault with this one.
