Need some battery help

Hi , All my flashlights take AA or AAA and thats what I know about. My friend just got a Surefire L2 with 123's and I don't know anything about this type of battery. His batteries are now dead and would like to know what and where (best prices) to get rechargables and charger. I think there are different types of rechargables but am not sure. Please educate me about this if there are different options available. :help:
