My "laser-based-ghost-spotter" for lack of a better description, is gaining a fast following due to the fact that this could really work...and help paranormal investigations tremendously. Here is the thread about it on the TAPS board (where I am C_Tanner): http://www.tapsmainforum.com/index.php?topic=19158.0

Anyway, here's where I need your help. I am trying to find something that will split a laser into a grid. I've seen ones that do a " + " ...with the vertical and the horizontal lines, but I am looking for one that will do at least a 9-square grid. This will do MUCH more in terms of revealing size/shape of the moving anomoly.

Some of us have seen or heard of laser pointers stopping in mid air, and most have experienced IR motion sensors being tripped repeatedly. This is the next obvious step. Seems simple right? Why hasn't anyone done it before? Because people in my field have little imagination...they just keep doing the SAME stuff over and over.

So can anyone help me to find a device or a method to project my 9-square grid? I will definatley credit CPF with the help!

You said you found the ones that produce the + shaped grid -- why not just install an array made from them?

Otherwise you're looking into custom optics which, while not completely bizarre, seems unnecessary.

As of right now, there aren't alot of those " + " ones that are cheap enough to make that feasible. I just thought there might already be something out there that does this, and I'm just not seeing it. It would look and work better.

Right now, I am using about 3 of them together. Wal Mart sells a laser level that switched between horizontal and verical lines for $10.00. I'll probably have to do the mulit-unit solution. But since I would like to use something like that on all 4 cameras, I'd rather not have to buy 24 laser levels to accomplish that.

Delta, how about this?

4x4 grid laser module

a little spendy at $50 each, but it sounds to me that that's what you're looking for

edit:

or check out this site, they offer grid diffusion optics that can (I believe) be used with normal laser pointers, for $10 each.
