I bought a 2.4-14.4volts auto charger a few years ago and i have only used it a dozen times or so, but from day one, the output cable seems to break very easy at the strain relief end , I have taped it up a couple of times but the breaks continue as the plastic must be brittle, and i think i need to replace the output cable, but how do i get into the charger without making a mess of it.

Thanks.

Try looking under the sticker on the charger to see if there are hidden screws....

BTW..thanks for the Kate link at the bottom! she"s SOOOO HOT!!:faint::grin2:

No screws under the sticker , and glad you liked the picture.:twothumbs

EDIT : I managed to get it apart , i placed the charger in a vice with a thin rod of metal along the seam on one side and it popped open after i tightened the vice up a couple of times, with zero damage, now i just need to find some cable to use as a replacment.

Thanks.

Nice tip! I never would have thought of that method....

+1 on your method! I never thought about doing it that way either.

Also,

I'm supposedly too old to be commenting, but, um, yeah, +1! :naughty:

these chargers, like Laptop power supplies, are clamshells.
The two halves are locked together and the seam heated which molds together. Repairs are usually cosmetically irreversible and you'll have to operate it as an open frame charger:shakehead

Not necessarily. In hobby stores dealing with plastic models. You know not the RC type. Don't know what to call those stores in English but you probably know what I mean.

There you can get a special type of glue. Where I live translated it's called "hobby modeling glue". I believe it has a high content of acetone. It's perfect for those kinds of plastics. To use the OP's words the glue so to speak welds the plastic together. Done properly it can be as strong as if there has never been a crack. The plastic softens and when dried it's "welded".
I've repaired many things with that type of glue. Good luck finding it locally. Well assorted toy stores are also a possibility though I have a feeling that it's not necessarily the case everywhere as I said I believe the glue contains acetone or similar "strong" contents.

When I was growing up I always knew it as polystyrene cement, used for constructing Airfix models. As you say, it is able to glue many kinds of plastic. (And also making a big mess of many things you didn't want to glue...)
