ok, here's my dilema... I love the Fenix PD30 flashlight, and im saving up for it right now. BUT, it uses what seems to be non-rechargeable batteries. Is there another flashlight similar to the PD30 (size, brightness, belt clip, strobe, high & low settings) that is rechargeable, or is there rechargeable batteries that will power the PD30?

The PD30 uses CR123 batteries doesn't it? In which case, yes, you can get rechargable CR123 cells. They are a bit risky compared to more familiar types of rechargables and need to be handled with care, but if you get good quality stuff you should be fine.

The rechargable CR123 tend to get called RCR123 on these forums, so try using the search at the top of the page. You will find LOTS of advice on what is suitable for your flashlight, which brands to avoid, and which brands to buy.

+1 on what Magic Matt said. I have a PD30 and it works fine with rechargeable 123s. Not 100% sure on the newer batches though. Mine is the one with the Q5 Led.

oh ok good. the rechargables is definately what i need. Thanks for your help folks. I had already searched for my answer but got more confused. Talking to real people is always better than google. Ya'll are smarter. :twothumbs

Unfortunately, Fenix lights tend to lose the lower modes with rechargeables. They go to direct drive. Also, if you aren't concerned about losing the lower modes, I still wouldn't suggest using two RCR123's/16430's. The driver may fry with the high voltage when they're hot off the charger (3.7v RCR123's and other Li-ion chemistries are usually 4.2v when charged). ~8.4v may be more than the driver can handle.
You may just want to use 1x 17670 Li-ion.

there are 3.0v and 3.7v rechargable lithium batteries available. IIRC the fenix will get fried if you put 3.7v into it. Read the voltage requirements, take care not to kill your new light.

yeah i don't want to fry $80 worth of flashlight . especially since i have to save up to buy it. im going to keep reading around to make sure i get the correct setup. thanks for the good info

There aren't really a whole lot of decent 3v reechargeables. Most are actually 3.7v, but have a little chip that reduces voltage. They really don't have the capacity of a RCR123/16430, because of the volume the chip takes up...

The Quark 123^2 is very similar to the PD30 in size, brightness, price and functionality, and it will run on 3.7v rechargeable batteries.
