ISP Korea has released a bunch of new Power LEDs including 5mm (100mA) and 8mm (150mA) with amazing mcd for the size.

Check out at their new web site http://www.powerleds.com/.

I have been using many of their 5mm and 8mm LEDs with great satisfaction.

would be nice for the Arc AA
--> anyone out there to mod those???

Hmm. 22000 mcd at 100 mA with a 25 degree viewing angle. Craig Johnson tested a Nichia NSPW500BS (Rank B2S) with 20 degree viewing angle at 11770 mcd at 23 mA. Scaled up to 25 degrees (i.e. dividing by (25/20)**2) that would be like 7532 mcd at 23 mA or 32751 mcd at 100 mA. So the Nichia at 23 mA is about 50% more efficient than the Powerled at 100 mA.

The 5mm led lights we're used to (Arc etc.) overdrive their Nichias at 50 mA or so and lose considerable efficiency, so maybe the Powerled output at that current is close to the overdriven Nichia output at the same current.

I've heard that ISP leds (ISP = manufacturer of powerleds, I think) have much whiter color than the Nichias, so overall they seem like reasonable alternatives to Nichias.

Cool!

You'd remember those mods I did to Arc-AA and AAA with their 8mm (100mA) and 5mm (20 degree).

ARC-AAA with 8mm white led (with pics)
ARC-AA with 8mm white led
Arc-AAA with 8mm White LED - 2nd Round (with pics)

I will try their new Power LEDs soon.

Currently I am about to complete the new Arc-AA mod with 14500 (AA size) Li-Ion rechargeable cell for H&M Contest. The direct drive output is quite flat for over 5 hours with over 90% efficiency. I am still trying to build a current regulated circuit to compare the efficiency.

Does anyone know what this company charges for these? Has anyone tried these before?

Their price of 8mm is a "give away" compared to a luxeon. Further no optic is required when put into a light. Perfect for mod to Arc-AA or Infinity.

Would these be similar to what this guy was selling here a few months ago?

It is the regular 100mA version.

I received a little more information on these leds.

5mm 40mA leds contain 2 pieces of regular led chips in one package, it means twice current and twice brightness compared to the regular 5mm leds. (?)

5mm 100mA leds contain single larger led chip in it.

8mm 100mA leds contain 4 pieces of led chips in one package.

8mm 150mA leds contain single larger led chip in it.

I am very curious to find out how these new power leds with larger led chips in 5mm and 8mm.
