On its face the 3W does appear to be an overdriven 1W; however, it is my understanding that everything is beefier in the 3W. It is built for these current levels. I just can't wait to see what a 3W does at 1.5A.

The Luxeon 3s look to be ~4-watters, 80 lumens @ 1,000mA forward @ 3.9VDC.
