This poll came about from a thread in the B/S/T Forum where I asked for suggestions for future products. I left it open to just about anything but most of the responses centered around Mag or Surefire accessories. Please take the poll and let me know which products you would be interested in. This is not a sign-up or promise to buy anything, its just for you to vote on which products you'd like to see available in the future. The original thread is here: https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/211065

The poll only allows 10 items at a time so I will need to have more than one poll, this poll is for Minimag items:
Larger Head/Bezel and reflector
3 Amp tailcap switch
Heatsink
Tailcap with lanyard/custom tailcap
Deeper bezel
Flatter XCapeCap
Clip on minimag filters/beamshapers
Flip-up beam shaper/filters
Survival items/kit/case/etc for Mag lites

You can vote for as many as you wish.

EDIT: based on the comment below, i wish to categorically state that my post is not meant to be a mag bash, i personally own 2 minimags, a 2D and a 3D and i love their build quality and the way it feels in my hand. However, all that aside, the level of light ouput is of paramount importance to me, the rest are just performance tweaks. No offence was meant to be caused to anyone

End of the day, without better output, all the rest does NOT matter. it's like putting a full bodykit on a POS car from the 50s with no good engine, no proper tires etc etc etc.

Unless and until Maglite comes up with something to match what is available commercially, all the things you mentioned, in my humble opionion, will not make it a better light. I noted that you mentioned everything except more lumens.

Thanks for your input but please don't make this into a Mag bashing thread. Many people like the stock Mags and many like modified mags. I am in the latter group. No one says you have to keep it stock. There are plenty of threads on CPF for modifying Mag lites, from the solitaire to the 6D and everything in-between. If you want to start a fire in 3 seconds, there are several Mags that will do it. If you want something that runs for days, you can do that also. When you want to dress up that fire starter or that stock Mag, well, that's where these accessories come in to play.

I AM a fan of the 2AA minimag and am NOT a maglite basher. I have frequently recommended it as a host in other thread discussions when moderate lumens are needed. In fact, its a GREAT light for the mere fact that you can completely take it apart and perform simple repairs. However none of your options really appeal to me.

A low-loss glass lens would be my one simple request.:twothumbs So I voted for the larger head & bezel IF its not a plastic:green: lens.

Like Kramer, I am also a fan of the 2xAA minimags.

I voted for the first 3 options, but what I specifically would like to see are:
  • glass lenses (I put AR glass lenses in all my minimags)
  • better heatsinking for the LED minimags
  • a multimode tailcap switch that does not cut down on the amount of light like the Nite Ize tailcap switch does

The Mini Mag lite can deffinatly use some heat sinking, that would allow the use of serious Leds not the crappy 5mm ones, with the upgraded emmiter one must allow more power to the led so I also voted for a lower resistance tailcap (one that can handle 3 amps)

So there ya go, thats what I think....now its your turn to vote

Tail switch is on the top of my list :D
Anything that will give the Minimag some extra oooph would be
most welcome

i think yo missed one major point,

an antiroll feature!

not a big chunky grip ring like a Fenix tk11 or anything, more like a Nitecore DI, just big enough to stop it rolling and small enough so that they still look sleek in keeping with the original maglite looks

All I want is the AuroraLite kit back.

400 lumen MiniMag? Check, please!

woo hoo. great poll

i'm telling you. 3aa maglite with a heatsink, p7, tail switch for momentary. it'll heat up fast but a great showoff flashlight for short use. a modern day auroralite kit.

maybe some kind of resistor to cut the current. or a click switch that when out it has a resistor and pushed in it goes full current, with a twist full on.

or cut down minimag with some li ion, heatsink, p7, drilled out reflector.
ultimate pocket showoff.

i believe the minimag has the same modding potential as the regular mags. plus, there is the "sleeper" factor as with all maglites.

hmmmm....the clear winners so far are the heatsink and 3A tailcap switch. I wonder what everyone is planning on doing with those:shrug: :naughty:

A source of metal reflectors would be really nice, I don't know how someone is going to need a 3A switch and still be using a stock plastic reflector.

If I'm missing something please point me to someplace I can get a better mini mag reflector.

So, what kind of a wait are we talking about here - weeks or months? If it's more than a month or two, I"ll probably keep on looking into making my own heatsink.

Right now this is an ideas/suggestions thread. If/when things go into production and are close to release, I will post a thread. I would imagine from idea to release on a heatsink will be several weeks if not longer.

I agree, it is like tricking out a chevy nova, at the end of the day it is still a chevy nova. ;)
