I just bought myself a new toy on Ebay, and I'm waiting for it to show

Not my first Gerstner toolbox - I have an OLD model 558 (or is it 588) - basiclly the same box you see here, but with a black leatherette covering. I also have a model 92 Base (In Cherry)

I think this one is going behind my desk in the den. I tend to collect tools and parts in the den, mostly Ham stuff/tools for Ham use

Sweet! Gotta love how the Machinery Handbook fits in there. :)

Forgot to say for the lurkers, Gerstner makes absolutely beautiful tool boxes, but they COST, particularly if you get them new. They do have an owners club (like $30 is you already own one) and you get significant discounts

They DO have an "international" line, which is made in China, and I have no idea how good those are. The "USA" line has been made (with minor changes) for 100+ years in Dayton Ohio

By default, the boxes were always Oak, and it's one of either 2/3 "standard" options today, the others being Cherry (slight premium) and Maple. They used to offer Walnut, but that is now on the 'exotic' list, and the cost something like 4x the already high price (The exotics are available in all sorts of wood)

According to them, 20 years ago, something like 90% of their boxes went to machinists, today, something like 85-90% go to collectors/Home storage etc. The newsletter has pictures of folks keeping quilting and other craft supplies in them

BTW - They also make some absolutely stunning jewelry boxes, if you want to get something nice for that special someone

WOW I had no idea they cost so much!

From an eBay auction:

"Okay, you want to "wow" somebody, or you just want to treat yourself to the best. Well, General Tool & Supply is giving you a chance to buy this stunning, Gerstner C92-XL Cherry tool box for a discounted price of only $1,230.00 Gerstner's current list price on this Cherry box is $1,410.00"

I guess the Costco version must be a nock off!:poke:

Nice box!:twothumbs

I DID say they cost. The international line is supposidly a LOT nicer than the Costco boxes, but I have not seen them in person

The one I got is a model 52 in Oak - a TAD cheaper ($930 new + shipping) - I paid well less than 1/3rd that

Of course, you want EXPENSIVE, get a 92xl in "exotic" wood - $2700

The only thing in my shop that has any interest from other members of my family is my Black Walnut Gerstner chest ( circa 1985 )

They all want me to leave it to them in my will <g>

grizzly sells what I think is the "international" version for about 1/8th the price.. amazing the difference in price...

If you ever intend to add a riser, or another, or whatever, make SURE you join the owners club - there is always at least some discount (hint, it more than pays for itself)

What's in the case next to the surface plate? Jo Blocks? How about a "shop tour" (on MY list of things to do is put up a shop tour)
