UPS showed up again and brought my new mt3 1" drill. This thing is awesome. It drills 1" holes like butter and doesn't slip:

I am definitely going to have to get a set of mt3 drills. I had never used any before and it is really nice just sticking in it the tailstock tube.

I also picked up a set of mitutoyo bore gauges for 40 bucks on ebay. The set was missing the 3 1/2" to 6" but the price was right:

I recently picked up 0-1 and 1-2.2" mitutoyo quickmics and I am really happy so far with this combo.

are the mt shank bits expensive and when the bit wears out can you just replace it or do you replace the whole taper shank and all. I but they would be really nice for larger holes though and might have to pick a couple up as well.

I got a new one for 18 dollars. They have sets on ebay for cheap too.

You can also get mt adaptor sleeves so you can put a mt2 into an mt3 etc.

The bit is a giant drill with the shank just ground to mt standards. You can re sharpen it or get a new one. The neat thing is you don't need a chuck and the taper holds awesome so no worries about the drill rotating. I found the 1" size perfect for my needs because I can just drill a hole and then move right to finishing to the desired size with the boring bar.
