I currently have a 4 D cell maglite (using LED), an Ultrastinger that i think is great, a big lantern boasting 3,000,000 candle power (runs out in 20-25 minutes, cheap POS) and a couple of 3 watt LED evereadys with 2 d cells for around the house and a ceptre headlamp. I walk a dog and somtimes dogs late a t night and need good light. They are very well trained but I let them go have fun but need to keep an eye on them. I'm thinking of a Mag85 sold by Mad Maxabeam, FiveMegas intense unit, a Wolf eyes PL24 if i keep going crazier with this stuff and then I'll need 2 small self defense lights capable of intense brightness with a sharp end. The consideration ends with a Magcharger. i won't get them all but I'd love to hear any thoughts and opinions. Are there any really bright LEDs that are rechargeable and last some time. i also noticed that Goncz is being sold by e-lectronics.net. Is that camaflouge or have they changed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Runtime of 1hr minimum is necessary for me except on the small defensive units.

Instead of a Mag85, you might want to check out a Magcharger with a WA1160 bulb. It's a little more convenient in the recharge and puts out a ton of light. You can also upgrade the battery/bulb holder/reflector as you see fit. Some people mod the chargers also to get a faster charge. Amazon had them on sale for $69.99 shipped a short while back.

Welcome to CPF and watch out for your wallet!.

In fact one can get carried away with current offerings. Its best that plenty of time put into research prior to securing any lights. I do have maglites however are of the earlier incan generation. Therefore I can't really comment or advice you of sorts.

Surf through the B/S/T sections on lights and modifieds and post many questions how silly it maybe.

All the best in your search for the ultimate light.

Welcome!

I'd definately do all my research before commiting any money to a hotwire.

Personally, I think the MagCharger with the 1160 is the way to go. There was an excellent thread about all the combos with all the upgraded battery packs and a few different bulbs which I think I have bookmarked on my computer, but I'm not posting from home.

The hotwire scene is pretty cool. Crazy brightness options which are very impressive but I'm sort of over it. Another option to consider is a multiple Cree/SSC Mag Mod. Much less chance of an instaflash at the worst time and they are almost starting to catch up with the mid level hotwire mods.

The SureFire L7 (100 lumens, regulated, 1 hour high brightness, 1.5 hours of diminished brightness) springs to mind, as well as the Streamlight Stinger LED (80 lumens, 1.75 hrs runtime on high).

There are lots of choices here. I would suggest an incandescent for this purpose. Examples: SureFire G2 with the P61 bulb (120 lumens), SureFire 9P with the P91 bulb (200 lumens).

Thx a lot guys. If you have time later cratz2 LMK about the bookmarks and I'll let you know what else I'm thinking of doing or have done.

I am gonna throw another vote in for a MagCharger with the WA1160 bulb. I frosted my bulb myself with some 400 grit sandpaper, and she puts out a fairly nice beam with almost 500 lumens coming out the front end. With the stock battery-pack, you will get about 30min of runtime. Seeing that you would like an hr. or burntime, you can just swap in an upgraded pack for about an hour of runtime as well(that will be my next purchase for my Mag60) and I believe the pack will also increase the brightness a bit.

That would be my high-powered incandesent suggestion. As far as a high powered LED light, I would say look into a Fenix L2D first. At only $55 and packing 135 lumens for at least 2hrs, it really is a good bargain. I think this light will be my next "small" purchase.

Excuse my ignorance but where would I get the WA1160 bulb and the upgraded power pack pls? The LumaPower M1 and the Fenix L2D look very interesting.

Thx.
