I first need to get this off my chest.I confess ,I am a flashaholic.I feel better now. I have 2 QIII I would like to upgrade.I have never modded a light but consider myself a quick learner.I need your opinions on what LED to use.Seoul or Cree?If it helps I prefer a beam that is more on the floody side .As always ,any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Seoul wil work great!
I like the Cree in a Q3. I think the reflector is a perfect match for it.

You have two QIII's, you could do one of each.

Another thing to consider is using two different tint LED's, whether CREE or Seoul. Use one warm tint, and one cool tint. I modded two QIII's for a guy and used USWOH and USVOH Seoul LED's. The results were very good, and the different tint LED's in identical lights was interesting.

+1 for the Cree with the stock reflector. If you want more throw you can use an IMS20 with the bottom sanded a little to focus the Cree.

PM me if you would like one sanded down.

Oh, and welcome to CPF addictions. :)

Q3?
My favorite moddable small sized light. :D

You may need to use a strong hairdryer pointed at the light after the battery is removed to get the head's glue to let go.
Then using gloves, unscrew it.

There may be a black retainer ring under that holding the led star in place.
Unscrew that with needle nose pliers.

Then break out the soldering iron and swap out the stock star noting it's polarity with either a Cree, or a Seoul star.

Re-install the black retainer ring, battery and the head of the light.

If successful, show it to your friends.

Thanks to all for the help. I have successfully opened the the QIII. Let the spending begin!
