Did a search, only two threads even touched on these things.

What's the consensus? Are they going to replace alkaline the way alkaline replaced heavy duty? (slowly, not quite completely, and more expensively?)

They only perform better than regular alkalines in digital cameras. In other applications like lights they have no added value.

The battery companies would like them to because they make more money on them, but the fact is consumers like cheap batteries. Even for their stated use, digital cameras, these cells just don't make any sense. Rechargeables last even longer, and cost less in the long run.

I also think once people start pinching their pennies regular alkaline will be on its way out. A lot of people still don't know about LSD cells. Once those catch on, it may well be the beginning of the end for alkaline.
