Duration of Hike: 5.5 mile loop trail, about 3 hours

Terrain: Open fields and rolling hills with patches of trees. Some uphill hiking but not too difficult. We will hike by the Guadelupe Dam and Reservoir. Very good views overlooking the Santa Clara Valley.

Recommended to bring: Water, jacket, and possibly a small pack to keep them in. Small snacks are also a good idea. FRS radio if you have one. Flashlights are a must!

Pending aproval and /or KAI watching.
I am interested.
Any other maybe's?

how about a slightly early start time? I do worry about the end time being so late. And it can be nice to find the starting place when it is not already dark.

Any geocaches along the route other then this item?

Got a estimated route from the garmin of the tracklog of the route from before? Curious to see what the route should be if you were to plot the route using the tracks from befrore?

Wow, this sounds like fun.

Good time to try an incan or warm LED.

I am in!!!!!!!:twothumbs

Thanks,
Jose

Especially those incans with 3+ hour runtimes!!

How many lumen-hours can folks carry?

How fast can folks change batteries?

Have to develop rapid reloading equipment/techniques...

I realize it's a late start time, but if we leave earlier it won't be a night hike. As it is it'll be close to 9 pm before it gets really dark. Just the way it is this time of year. Also the moon will be 99% full that night and will start to rise at 8:01 pm. I'm guessing we'll have a brief period of real darkness when we're away from city lights, under tree cover, and before the moon gets high enough to be a factor. Later when we reach the ridgeline, it should be a great view looking down on the Santa Clara Valley with an almost full moon on the horizon.

Yes there are about 80 geocaches in the park. The one in your link is at the beginning. We'll pass several along our route. Here's a map showing some in the area we'll be in.

I'll email you the tracklog from November 2007. You can open it in MapSource.

Sounds good to me, Ill be there.

What trails were we planing to hike?

gimmejr, you say that, and were were you for the CPF BBQ? humm? grin.
It would be good to see you.

Hi Larry, wish I could join. Been busy lately. This Saturday doesn't work for me. Hopefully can make the next hike. You gonna organize one during the Summer, I hope ;) Have fun.

It's a possibility. I haven't thought that far ahead. This hike is the result of a few people talking about it at the recent CPF BBQ, and me having had a few beers and saying let's go.

Put me down for "maybe". I'm still juggling my Saturday commitments.

Sounds like the weather might make it a sloppy hike.

whoa!!! thats 1-2 minutes down the street from my house!!

Count me as a "maybe" gotta check with the wife first, but I'm pretty sure I'll be in town this weekend.

50% chance of rain on Friday. Clouds and no rain forecast for Saturday. It is a possibility we may have wet ground.

Hey it was fun. Thanks everyone for coming!

I couldn't believe it. Twelve CPRers armed to the hilt with flashlights, and yet nobody brought a UV flashlight to shine on the little scorpion we came across. :ohgeez:
