I would STRONGLY recommeend that you wait another 10 days, until the completion of the SUPER SHOOTOUT.

Kenshiro and I have had 5 of the 8 units for over 2 weeks. The REVA Int'l units shipped last Tuesday, and the MEGARAY is awaiting a new battery pack.

Preliminary testing has been ongoing as we receive the units, and again, I would suggest that you wait, and read our report.

Unquestionally, this will be the most comprehensive review ever posted on CPF. Just as an example, the still photography of the products was done in a studio, by a professional photographer... no home brew digicam candids.

All of the lights will metered in the same fashion as the US military, when they do their testing (several thousand dollars of test equipment is being sent to us, specifically for this shootout, courtesy of one of the manufactures).

All I can say is this... you might be very surprised by the results

Oh, I didn't catch that you were going to have the II version in the test. Sorry.

The shootout will be a TREMENDOUS service to all on CPF. Thanks in advance!

(Holding my breath...)

And i'm waiting with an extra pair of undees...

I usually pee myself when you guys do reviews like this.

(too much info? sorry...)

LEDagent,

you are cordially invited to the shootout next weekend. the only catch is that it's a two+ hour drive for you from San Diego.

On the other hand, very few people have ever seen the MAXABEAM, NIGHTHUNTER, or REVA INT'l, and I would guess that only a few people have ever witness ALL EIGHT of these HID together in one place, compared head to head... truely a once in life time.

Even talking to the manufactures, yes they seen their competitors lights, but never in one place at the same time

Jeff,

This will be very interesting indeed...can't wait to see the results.

(my first post to CPF.)

I really REALLY want one of these things. It's larger than any light I should want and way WAY brighter than anything I'd ever need but if it's anything close to its billing, then I'm not sure I can resist. It looks pretty well-made, too.

I've read the post saying that it's much fatter than expected, like about that of a Mag-lite bezel. Does anyone have a spec on diameter?

Does anyone have a comparison of its beam (strength, quality) to anything else? A photo? The Xenonics web site is so sparse.

Are there some big drawbacks that might cure me of this obsession? I mean, I really don't need a flashlight this powerful, and certainly don't need one that cost over a grand (the rep said it cost that when I called sometime way back), but "need" has got nothing to do with it.

I'm lamely justifying it to myself by thinking that I'll just leap over nickel-and-diming myself on a bunch of smaller lights and go straight for the Big Badass one.

Does anyone have any advice on buying one of these huge things, a better deal than just phoning Xenonics and "Ship it! Charge me! I can't breath until I have it in my greedy paws!"

Thx.

Mr Ted Bear...you know how to make a grown man cry.

I'm busy next weekend though.

I have several performances lines up for Saturday and Sunday. When, exactly, will this take place?

Hey Mr. Tee Bear,

I have two questions. You said 10 days and the results will be posted on the shootout. So does that mean on Wednesday the 11th or Thursday the 12th I will be able to go on CPF and read the review?

How come the plasmabeam was not in the shootout? How would it compare?

Thank You,
Eric

ARGH!!! I live in Singapore....... it's a 14 hour flight to Los Angeles... not to mention the ticket.... would have gone if I can afford it... Seems like I have to be contented with the reviews.

Keep in mind that I have never seen the Night Hunter 2 running (live in front of me). But $1,700 for the Night Hunter 2. Wow! that's too much for that light!.. Sorry! $89.00 for my MagCharger. Sure there is a BIG difference between the two, but $1,611.00 difference?? I could buy 19 MagChargers and strap them all together. Now that would be interesting.

Zeppert,

There are VERY FEW who have seen the NH2 for real.

Of the superlights it is probably the most "elusive"(save for the Megaray).
You can't really compare it to the Magcharger.
Not only because of the performance, but because size wise.....
Well.....

Let's just say it's not as small as you think.

I like the NHII also. I like it's traditional
flashlight style, the fact the charger is built
in the unit. funny thing though, it's maker
does'nt post any specs on it's capabilities.
And the fact the U.S. Border Patrol has been
issued them should bring the NightHunter II
into the media spotlight don'tcha think?

It'd be nice to see something as simple as a ruler placed next to some of these lights.

About the border patrol, I would also think that would be a big deal but after looking at some of these big lights, that seems to be a common claim. Maybe the border patrol grabs what it can at the time and it's not the badge of honor one would initially think.

Reva Int'l LongArm:
"See why the US Border Patrol...

Megaray: (click on "applications" link)
border patrols are typical clients...

Or conversely, maybe they're grabbing up the best of the moment to use on the job and all the lights bought by them are cream of the crop. I can't deny that all the lights have amazing specs. I just want something sort of, well, flashlight-like.

Binky,... I'm the same way with the flashlight
likeness. I like that part. I just got back from
the NHII site, and was even further surprised by
a 1 HOUR FAST RECHARGE! Wow....that's quick.
You may know this already, the body diameter is
2.5 inches, same as a can of Coke, so grab a can
of pop and one can get a feel of the heft of the
NHII.
I hope the NHII is covered in the upcoming HID
tests.
I'd like to get a color brochure on the NHII
if the company has one. Think I'll email and ask.
On another note I ordered a Tigerlight on Wednesday,
with everything I've read about it and none of it
being in a negative tone, it ought to be one helluva flashlight for 115 bucks.

After looking over the internal components of the MegaRay, above and on its mfr's website, it's customized yes but it sure reminds me a LOT of the internal stuff in a standard PC presentation projector thing. Heck, the entire lens shaft looks like it was pulled straight from Casio's parts bin.

But then again, if it works who the heck cares about that. (I don't, anyway.)

Scott,

Let's just say your hope will come true.

Remember, if you have been following me and Ted Bear's info for the past 2 months, we said we will have ALL the superlights currently available.

One thing to remember though, guys.
The design goal of the NH2 was not "super-duper light output".
It was actually "a smaller searchlight with decent light but LONG run time and fast recharge".
That is what is does exactly.

Don't think that the output will be close to lights whose design goals were "extreme output".

Well, you can't have it all.....
