I just received my new light from Nightlghting so I thought I would compare it against my Fenix P3D Q5 with a smooth reflector.

The iBlaast is using a 14.8v 4800 mAh Li-ion pack. Should be seven hours run time on high.

All shots were taken at a distance of 32 feet, with a Nokia N82.

Thank you for the demonstration. I´m a swedish orienteerer and thinking about get myself an iblaast.
What do you think would be the best of 12 or 25 deg optics for running in the forest? Which optic do you use?

Regards
Stefan

For running through a forest, I would have thought the 25 degree would be the better choice, as you'd have more light illuminating around you rather than a brighter hotspot causing tunnel vision.

Cool shots.
I now have somewhere to point people who rave about their fenix being the best bicycle light in the world.

I rode home with my iBlaast yesterday night, offroad. I used it on medium most of the time except for some fast downhills. It's amazing! More spread than my HID Storm.

I have the 12 degree optic, and I think this would be ideal for spotting controls etc. in orienteering. You don't need it any wider than this if it's mounted on your head.

Note- I had Eric set mine up with a Maxflex so it can take my 6V and 7.2V batteries, and also with a Nite Rider clip so it can fit my niterider headband and helmet mounts.

I would use 25 deg as you don't need as much throw because your not going as fast.
I'm using 10 deg optics.

I would like to see the iblaast with a defusing filter like on the Hope 4 led so as to give the light a more even spread.

I'm using the fenix on my helmet I would also suggest using the orange peel reflector as the smooth reflector gives a narrow hot spot.

Here is my contribution.
It's just part of my collection, never use, I modded the connectors.
I would say they are the best lighting system I have seen so far in term of cost and performance.

Hmmm! I don´t think that made me any wiser. But thank you for your opinions. A friend of me uses Lupine Wilma with a 18 dgr optic for orienteering, and he thinks it´s little bit to small beam. In the forest you need to see the surroundings more than on a bike on the road. You can´t miss the stones, heights or the bogs you pass. Perhaps I just have to buy both optics and try.

I have made a custom light for night 'O' (and mountain biking). I have 6 cree q5s so pleant of light:) I can pick and mix the optics options with my setup and have experimented quite a bit. I ended the season with 3 different sorts: 2 8 degree spots, 2 ovals 25x8 and two diffuse. If I was setting up the 4 led variant I have for night O I would have the two ovals and the two spots. Here in the UK the periferal feel that the ovals give you is important to help pick the best way though the vegitation:mad: From my experiance of Sweeden the vegitation is not so bad.. Do you use proper controlls for night O like we do in the UK or just the small very reflective controlls? If it's the small reflectors I would not be so worried about throw as they show up a long way off even without much light, I would go for the wider beem...

Yes we do use the reflectiv type so I think I just go for the large beam.
Thank you!
