NiMH Charger WITHOUT trickle charging?

I have some eneloop batteries and am looking for a certain type of charger. In my applications, when these batteries are placed on the charger, no one will be able to remove them from the charger for at least a few days, but probably a week. Most chargers I've looked at appear to do trickle charging after the batteries are full, and my research seems to indicate that trickle charging is probably bad for eneloops. I'd like the charger to just turn off when its done charging instead of doing the trickle charge. My current charger is the Sanyo MQN06, and I'm not sure if this does the trickle charging or not.

Does anyone know:
1. If the Sanyo MQN06 trickle charges or turns off when its done charging?
2. Can someone recommend a charger that just turns off when its done instead of trickle charging?

Thanks.

I tested the MQN06 charger and it does indeed trickle charge, which is not what I want. So that answers question #1 but still leaves the other question: does anyone know of a charger that does not trickle charge when it is done? Thanks.

Hello DarkNova,

Welcome to CPF.

There are very few chargers that don't trickle charge after the main charge. Some of the hobby chargers do this, but not all. For example the older Schulze chargers don't trickle charge NiMh cells, but will trickle NiCd cells.

The best bet for you is to hook up a timer that allows the charger to charge your cells, then shuts off after a minimum amount of trickle charge.

Another option is to use a 1C charger and find something to do during the hour it takes to charge the cells.

Some chargers that do not trickle charge, may draw a few mA if the cells are left in the charger after shutdown.
Sanyo MQH02 does not trickle charge, but I have not tested what it draws after shutdown.
It is also capable to charge two cells at 1C, or four cells at 0.5C.
