Hello all!!! I received my D10 back from Tekno-Cowboy today after being modded with a UV emitter. I just wanted to post some pics and tell a little story.

Well here is the story. I have always been really interested in flashlights. I became even more so when I entered the police academy over 8 years ago. In the academy I bought my first light a Surefire Z3 shortly followed by a E1E and a E2E. I then over the course of several years bought almost every Surefire there was. Then I kinda stopped getting new lights over the last couple of years.

About three years ago my E1E was lost/stolen. I have recovered it several months ago and that is when I started thinking man this light just isn't as bright as I would like and that is when I found this forum. Since joining several months ago I have caught up very quickly on my addiction. I had no idea that LED's have advanced this far.

Well I discovered Nitecore along with several other fine manufactures. I have several of Nitcores lights and in particular I like the D10 the most. I have always wanted a UV light for work but never really found either one that I liked or could afford. I was then inspired by a post of a fellow CPF'er that had modded a E1B with a UV and it interested me.

I did not have a E1B but I did have a D10. Through my searches on the forum I came across Tekno-Cowboy and his warm tint modding service. I contacted him with my idea to mod the D10 and he decided to try it.

This is where the story gets interesting and has a lesson to be learned and a good outcome in the end. I sent Tekno-Cowboy my D10 in the mail and I also insured it. Just before mailing it I checked it and it worked perfectly. When Tekno-Cowboy received it it was DOA. We went through several tries of working with the post office to claim the insurance. In the end they said that they would not pay the claim because there was no outward sign of damage. I didn't trust the post office before and even less now.

I purchased a new D10 that was shipped straight to Tekno-Cowboy. He then preformed the modification very quickly and shipped it back to me along with my dead D10. I just want to stop here for a second and say that Tekno-Cowboy has been great throughout all of this and has been very helpful. He also does very fast and good work. Regarding the dead D10 since it was a less than one month old light I contacted the company I bought it from tacticalleds.com and they are replacing it. Very good customer service.

So I received the modified light today. It is very nice and a very clean mod. I love that I have a UV that is adjustable; a low for ID checks in the car or a good high for checking a crime scene or your hotel sheets before you sleep in em.:shakehead.

The light is very bright on high and has a very good beam profile for what I want it for. It is very smooth from edge to edge with a nice hotspot. There are no external signs that the light has been modded. Like I said a very clean job. The light retains all of it's original UI which is exactly what I wanted. If anyone is looking for a good UV light this isn't the worst way that you could go for sure. This is the neatest thing I have in my collection. Thumbs up to you Tekno-Cowboy very fine work.

I've taken a number of pictures of the beam and the light itself. Also a couple of pictures with it's extended family.

These first four shots are straight down the front. I love the look of this emitter I even have one of these shots as my new background.

These next 5 shots are some body shots and angle with the beam on.

The next 3 shots are of the beam. All of these pictures the D10 is on high. the first picture my camera was on auto. the second and third I went to manual and increased the exposure to show the beam better.

The rest of these are just some glamour shots with the family!

I hope you all enjoyed this I sure enjoyed getting this light and wanted to share the experience. If I posted this in the wrong place due to it being a mod feel free to move but I just though my life/flashlight story might fit in the general discussion. Any questions or comments about this write up or the light feel free. Go easy on me though I haven't really done anything like this quasi review before so constructive criticism only please.

Thank you again Tekno-Cowboy great work.:twothumbs

Thanks,

I just tried to take some pics of florescent material but I am so far a complete failure. Either over or under exposed. It's hard to show what it really looks like in person. I am not a very good photographer but I will keep trying and if I get any shots that are worthwhile I will post them.

It is very usable from 0-15 feet and still makes things that fluoresce pop out at up to about 30 feet. I can easily sweep an entire room in a matter of seconds.

Very cool Viper. I decided I want that light back now. I'll give you the same price you gave me...

:laughing::crackup: ahhh NO! hehe. but I could be convinced to sell it back to you at a appropriate value:devil::sssh:

Gol darn it, looks like I should have used epoxy after all. If you ever want it centered, just send it back my way, and I'll epoxy that thing in place.

Thanks for all the compliments :twothumbs:

Hey there TC wasn't sure what happened there doesn't really effect the beam or anything. I don't know much of what is going on under the hood on this thing so was it centered and you had it down with thermal paste and it's came loose. Or is it just off center but still attached. As long as it's safe to operate I'm happy for now but if it needs it done I'll send it back now or if itss fine but my OCD kicks in later I'll send it back.

I just used some AS5 thermal grease to hold it down. I figured the friction would hold it in place, but I guess the shaking that goes on during shipping must have been enough to make it move. These don't center as easily as the XR-E emitters, due to the fact they have a rectangular piece where the ring on an XR-E would fit perfectly in the reflector.

It is perfectly safe to operate, just a little off-center. The LED can't come away from the heatsink, there's just no room, so as long as the beam isn't affected there shouldn't be a problem.

The only reason it bothers me is because I could have done it a little better :ohgeez:

If you ever get that OCD kicking in, let me know, and I'll take care of it :twothumbs:

Hey nitcore offer this as an option and you will sell another 1,000 of them - maybe.

great that there are those who do such things on demand though.

Cool stuff.
