Not released yet, BUT . . .

Big Surefire fan here, but my vote goes to Twisty. Smaller, probably less expensive and no less tough.

If i had to choose, I'd get both. Finally a factory 3 mode Surefire and a upgraded RA Twisty, 2010 is looking good for the flashaholics.

Wow, this is a hard decision... They both look like rock solid lights... Both from high spec companies...

The only way to solve this dilemna is: buy both. Whichever one you like best, keep, and sell the other on the Marketplace...

I have to admit I hadn't even heard of the Stratum until seeing it in this thread. I have now (google is our friend), found it at LAPG. It certainly looks nice. That shouldn't really be a buying factor, but hey, we all know it is, even if just a little ;)

Tried the HDS 140GT Twisty, purchased the 170 HDS Clicky now somebody buy and report on the Stratum, please!

Got the Stratum. It arrived DOA, but it only took Surefire 6 days to send a working unit, and that included the July 4th holiday. VERY good service! Some quick observations, SF gets much hotter on high than the HDS and, to my eye, the HDS puts out more light when it steps down to 140 than the SF puts out at 160. Hot spot of the HDS is a little brighter and a little wider. The combination of spot and spill on the Stratum is very nicely done. The output of the SF is warmer than the HDS. I thought the HDS was overbuilt when I received it, but the Stratum goes a step further. An anvil comes to mind! I don't see the Stratum being a EDC like the HDS, but a nice light to have around the house or at camp. The wife said "it looks like a real flashlight". At 37% less than I paid for the HDS, the Stratum gets my value for $$$ award. Looking forward to how someone mods the Stratum.
