I can't decide what may be best for general use, like in my computer bag and to carry with me hunting/fishing/camping.

I am looking at:

Fenix TK11 R2
Novatac 120T

The features I like are:
  1. higher 240L on the Fenix
  2. low power on the Novatac - I won't go blind walking a trail
  3. strobe on the Novatac - heck if I get lost in the bush I just may want to signal a Beaver pilot flying VFR in the dark
The not so important features:
  1. battery life (1 vs 2) are not so important to me. I carry spares
  2. size about the same anyway
  3. price - if I get lost in the bush the higher price of the Novatac will give the guys an incentive to come look for me
Any thought and recommendations?
Thanks

Well, once the honeymoon period was over with my TK11, I realized that I don't much like the design of the head to body interface. The head has external threads that screw down into internal threads on the body (instead of vice-versa like most other lights I've seen).

This means that when you lube the internal threads on the body, there's the chance that the lube is going to work its way down onto the top of the battery. Also, on the TK11 head, the threads are kinda recessed into the outer shell of the head so they're hard to get at and clean.

These are kind of some nit picky things that may or may not bother some people. But on my sample at least, the threads on the head feel awfully rough, like there's some bad metal on metal grinding. I'll probably just twist the head back and forth several times a day until the problem resolves itself one way or another!

By the way, if I had to do it over again knowing what I know now, I'd stick with just the TK20. In my opinion, better build quality than the TK11 (switch and threads, mainly), easier batteries to deal with, and cheaper to boot! It's a darn good light for only about 50 bucks.

Have a search for the 'RA Clicky' - it has a similar form factor to the Novatac but cheaper and owners on here rave about them. :)

Do you like throw of flood? novatac beams tend to have more more uniform, flooded out pattern. Fenix beams tend to have lot more power in the central spot

and as for low power, i dont think you really want to be using the 0.2 lumens for walking on a trail, the low mode of the Tk11 should be great.
