Full review up with your favourite servings of images, beamshots and runtimes. :) Enjoy!
Also, I've migrated the entire site to a new host which fixes the problem of non-loading page elements.

This thing will run for 3 hrs at 60lm? WOW that means i would get what about 8hrs with my 18650 tube? man we have come along way!:twothumbs

Great work and I really like your site! It has become one of my "go to" sites for evaluating new purchases. Your comparison fuction is really cool and unique.

I am really impressed with the runtime/brightness of the Novatac and also the new Fenix lights. Small lights are finally starting to put out brightness and runtimes that are quite impressive for such small lights. Level 18 (with primary Lithium ion) putting out 484 Lux for over 10 hours!!!!

Keep up the great work!

Thank you for a great review.
Almost 11 hours at 30 lumens on CR123, very impressive in deed.
The manual stated 2.5 hours at 30 lumens.
What happened? Did NovaTac underestimate the runtime that much?

Howdy x2x3x2,
I must admit, I've also become quite a fan of your review site. Your reviews present the information in an easy-to-read and understand fashion, and address the concerns we flashlight buffs would be interested in. Well done!

I'm curious. You seem to have completely disassembled the 120P for the photos and review. Were you able to reassemble the light into functional working condition? It looks like it might be fairly easy to do an emitter swap if that is the case.

I liked your 'fix' for the possible loosening of the tailcap switch retaining ring. There has been some discussion of a similar loosening of the retaining ring holding in the emitter module, do you think the same 'fix' would work there too?

I'm also curious, will you be keeping the light? I had a similar 'flickering' problem in my 120P which I returned to NovaTac for repair or replacement. Are you considering that option, or do you not see it as a major problem?

Ok, thanks again for another excellent review.

Hiya Dean,

I only had to unscrew the 2 retaining rings, the one holding the emitter module and the one in the tailcap, everything drops out with ease. They are identical and the fix will work the same for both. These 2 retaining rings tend to come loose under normal use anyway, so putting them back is not a problem and it will work fine, so no worries about that :)

As TCW has mentioned, I have sold the light. I usually sell the products I review in the BST forum to get more funds for future reviews.
The NovaTac EDC series are great lights. However personally I would rather wait for future revisions where they would at least iron out the random pulsing problem, and if possible, a better solution to the spring coil. Something like the Wolf Eyes' brass battery tube lining comes to mind as a possible alternative.
If you can look past these shortfalls, I would say that it would be money well spent on these.

Cool, thanks for the info x2x3x2. Yes, I've got to admit I find the spring a bit funky, but certainly not a deal breaker if everything else works according to spec.

I'm currently waiting for a replacement from NovaTac for the 120P I returned last week that had the annoying 'flicker/pulsing' problem, so I understand your wanting to wait until they get those issues 'ironed out'.

Actually, if it's not something that becomes a problem, I rather like that the light can be taken apart and put back together so easily, as it opens the door for future LED upgrades.

Hiya Dean,

These 2 retaining rings tend to come loose under normal use anyway, so putting them back is not a problem and it will work fine, so no worries about that :)

I am now beginning to wonder how can it come loose by itself after normal use? as it hasn't done so in my EDC120P .. any special things to do to make it loose?

In past 4 weeks, I have changed battery at least 8 to 10 times (for review) and in general.... mostly i open the top compartment and leave the tail cap and tube intact... but the ring didn't go loose yet... I do not tighten the light too much, but just enough to keep things holding firm and make a good contact ... does it occur due to over tightening?

I tighten it just as i do with all the other lights i've tested, dunno if the strength i use to tighten is excessive. I tighten it just enough, kinda like how tight you would tighten a water bottle. Other lights, like the Fenix ones for examples, did not have their retaining rings in the tail cap come loose

turbodog has encountered this same behaviour too, as quote from his thread, in post #6:

Excellent review. I haven't had any problems with mine, when and if I do, I'll feel more comfortable working on it. Great site!:twothumbs

Fantastic review, thanks! The runtimes on the lower brightness levels make me happy, too.
