Hey guys, first post here. Ive got to say that this is an awesome community, so much info! Im in the market for my first serious flashlight and ill either be going with a Ra Clicky or a Novatac EDC. The Ra obviously comes standard with clip up carry but the Novatac doesnt. Ive read that one can install the standard clip between the bezel and body to reverse the carry but I was wondering If I would need to buy an extra o ring to insure water resistance? Would changing the distance between the bezel and body possibly allow water to enter, and if so would the standard EDC o rings be the proper size to fix this? Thanks!

No, you won't need anything extra. The NT clip can be installed in one of three ways.

1. Under the bezel (bezel up carry)
2. Under the tailcap (bezel down carry)
3. Between the battery tube and the head (bezel down carry)

I think the previous post answered it, but I just got a used Novatac 120P from the BST forum and wanted to take a couple pics (configured as bezel up carry by the previous owner). Maybe these will be of use to you:

Oh, and btw: :welcome:

LL - Thanks for the info!

gsegelk - Thanks for the pics, looks like quite a secure fit. And thanks for the welcome!

Wow! I didnt know it could go there as well Thanks for that! I have mine under the bezel now as well. It sits lower in my pocket.
:)

I tried that with my novatac and my lens rattled. I thought I might need another o-ring in there.

Welcome....go with the RA Clicky. I bought a Novatac 120P and I've had a shambolic experience with them over customer service, a faulty light and having to pay more out of my own pocket for NT to fix something that should have been fine out of the box. Please don't make the same mistake I did.

Wow...somebody sounds bitter! Every product line has it quirks. i have had the same experience with other company's CS when I'm in a time zone with a 12-16 hour difference of who I'm trying to get a hold of. NT customer service has been nothing short of phenomenal to me or anyone i know of. i agree, it blows to be in that situation, but be fair and give more details of your experience so we can draw something useful from it.

according to tests, the clicky seems to be more energy efficient than the novatac, and probably has a more durable body.

If the lens rattles, you will need a beefier O-Ring. Any ACE or similar hardware store should have what you need. You could also use a GIDT O-Ring.

As someone said it works eiter way.
My Clicky went wrong and I had so much hassle trying to get it sorted I got a Novatac, it's perfect and I am very happy with it.

The Ra is just a higher quality product and you won't be sacrificing customer service if you buy a Ra over an NT. Prices are now much more competitive, so the list of reasons to purchase an NT over a Ra is now very short and possibly entirely empty.

Kamakazikev24: theres a catch in your statement, you had issues with the clicky, and there were hassles to get it fixed, but it falls under guarantee, i have a novatac with the low level flicker, and was told its not fixable, and my light was one of the lucky ones, because low level flickers "only" ocassionally and when the battery is low.

the way i see it, production will always have faulty products, as no production line is perfect. so it leaves us some factors to consider:

how many of those lights that come out the line are faulty
does the company honor their guarantee
do they consider defects, something regular on their lights

Then theres the product itself, and i do consider my HDS U60 superior to my Novatac, if the clicky is even better than the U60, then theres no contest.

I had the dreaded low-level flicker on my Novatac 120P as well, which got worse as my battery drained. It drove me nuts, as the ulta-low level turned into a strobe once my battery was under 70% capacity. I previously had an 85P that got stolen from my hotel room(another story) that I had for about a year, and that light was perfect in every way. I ordered the 120P to replace it, and found myself with a bad egg :mecry:

Long story short, I sent my light back to Novatac for service. Jesse in customer service took care of me, and I was 100% satisfied with service. They replaced the guts of my tailcap, and the light engine itself. Best part of the stroy, no more dreaded low-level flicker.

In the end, I faithfully EDC'd a Novatac for about a year and a half. The lights worked great, and my 120P still has a spot on my nightstand. Although, you won't ever see the 120P in my pocket anymore. My one month old Clicky 100WWCn has been in my pocket since the day I got it. In my opinion it's far superior to my Novatac, which is saying a lot because I have no problems with the Novatac lights.

The decision is up to you. No matter what light you chose, you will have yourself a fine illumination tool. Both lights will handle any task you throw at them with pride :grin2:

Hey thanks for all the advice guys and sorry for not responding sooner, I thought this thread would have died out after the clip info was posted. I really wanted a Ra (for the build quality and because id rather have an unknown light than a know brand: "woah dude is that a Novatac I heard those are like the best small flashlights, can I check it out") but the pricing was putting me off as the Novatac 120t flat cap/120p are available online at around $100 and the edc85 at around $75.

Anyway the moment I saw the new Ra lights online I contacted Kevin at BS and was guaranteed the first shipping Clicky EDC from the store :twothumbs

Should be putting this little guy to use in the Middle East soon. Cant wait!
