I toyed around with this idea originally with a halogen 20W 12V bulb and adapted it to LED with some resistors and a pair of bridge rectifiers.
It runs off a smallish bookshelf speaker amp and drives a pair of 5 LEDs. Each side has 2 white 2 blue and 1 red led. There is a left and right side which correspond to left and right audio channels.
