Olight M20 Warrior, Battery Help Please.

Hi guys,

I am new to lights and after my first purchase of a Fenix L0D, CREE I became interested in collecting flashlights. I just purchased an Olight M20 Warrior Premium, R2 after doing lots of research for a tactical light. It looks like a winner!

One thing though is that I am confused as to what battery is best for this. As for type, I'm thinking an 18650 over a CR123A or RCR123A as it seems that the 18650 offers the longest run time. If there is a benefit to using the others, please let me know. If I do want to go with an 18650 though, which cell should I get? I'm deciding between ultrafire, tenergy, and AW.

Protected or unprotected?

Lastly, I saw a charger called WF139 that was recommended elsewhere on this site. Will I be fine with that?

Thanks for all your help. I've been searching the site all the day and finally got frustrated by all the information. Hoping someone can help me sort things out.

I found the AW cells that you mentioned over at lighthound and had no idea they cost that much! Is there somewhere to get a better price? I saw a guy named AW selling them on cpfmarketplace (for a bit less) but am not sure how to purchase from him.

I'm also new to this, but getting lots of good info from here, I've become a bit of an anorak!!
I recently bought the charger you mention the WF 139, very pleased with it, but it comes unable to charge RCR123, as the terminals are not wired up, however there is a link on a user rating on dealextreme.com that shows the connection points to add, so 4 little wires later will do more types.
They don't really sell OLIGHT much this side of the puddle, but I do have a T25, which is one of my fave lights.
The way the date is written ?, is this the us way with month date year ?

Some places sells two spaces with it, this way you can charge 16340 without doing any wiring.

Yes I've seen them, and a vid of someone just using some wood dowelling with a screw through each to do the same job.
I'm just confused as to the reason for not wiring this bit up ?

You can purchase direct from AW, head over to this link and you'll learn everything you need to know. If you need further help, just post here, someone will answer :D

A 18650 is 3.7 volts, 16340s are 3.6/3.7 volts each so 2x16340s will give you more voltage, i.e. more voltage. More voltage may (please note the 'may') mean a brighter light. But for runtimes, you can't beat a 18650.

Oh, and that link to the cells also sets you up for spacers.

I have 2 Ultrafire WF-139 chargers but intend to get a PILA once those die on me.

I know there is alot of negative input about the wf-139 chargers but I bought one recently . After then reading all the bad things about them overcharging and other things, I started checking voltages off the charger on both RCR123 and 18650s. I can say on mine that it seems they have corrected some of the problems from earlier ones. I even forgot one time and left an 18650 on the charger overnite. After realizing and quickly pulling it off the charger and testing voltage it was well below the danger point. While I still dont make it a habit of leaving it unattended , I think the newer wf-139 are improved . RCR also come off ok, a bit higher than 18650v but still within paramters. So not as good for certain reasons as the mentioned PILA charger but less expensive and seemingly improved for us flashaholics on a budget.
Also beware there is a new AW 18650 with higher capacity but no button top. I have to us a magnet spacer on top of it to get it to work in my Jetbeam MIII but it has noticably longer runtime than my button top AW.
Lighthound might be a cpl dollars higher but they ship fast and you get it quick in the US and customer service is great. It actually works out to be about the same as getting directly from AW I think ?

Welcome to CPF, gunlock.

You've been given some good advice by members above, so it looks as if you'll be OK. The WF-139 charger has had its ups and downs, with some batches having proved very "iffy". It doesn't use the best charging algorithm, but it works. The Pila IBC is a far superior product which is more expensive, but it will be kinder to your cells.

The thread has been about batteries rather than the light, so I'm moving it to the Batteries section.

I got an M20 a few months ago also and was debating on what sort of batteries to use. I got 10 Tenergy CR123A's pretty cheap online and have been using those, but have people had better results with the 18650? I notice it gives you a lower voltage (3.7 vs 2x3.0), but you mentioned it has better runtime?
