Olight M30 Tail Cap

Candle Power Forums

Help Support Candle Power:

Dano, this issue has been thwarting my purchase of an M30 for some time now. It's funny that when I recently started getting serious about owning this light, the tail cap problem "magically" fixed itself!

I'll post to the marketplace as they become a reality - we've been asking for this since the light came out because the biggest problem with the current tailcap design has been holster fitment. I'm hoping that with the redesigned tailcap it can fit into a standard Stinger holster since just about every LEO in the land has one of those. :)

I've had a M30 for about amonth now, and do not really have any issues with the tailcap. I like the fact it can tail stand on the points, and believe that was their intention in the first place, not defensive use.

Another thing I like about the stock tailcap is that the point adjacent to the level selector switch is slightly different, so you can find the switch in the dark. How will this be accomplished on the new unit? Different type of switch?

However I will take one of these new "smooth" tailcaps when you get them in. Having options is always nice.

Thanks a lot Matt. If it strikes you, post something in this thread if they ever reach production. Your support to this thread (and myself) is much appreciated.

It'll fit an open top, but probably not a Stinger holster with a flap over the head.

cbxer55 - at the least the smooth tailcap will have a flat locator spot like the current design - I've made it clear that, besides the button, there has to be an obvious 'locator.'

OC - Sure thing - I'll definitely reply here. :)

dano - I haven't had a chance to check, you think the head is too big and/or the light too long to fit common Stinger holsters? I need to measure....

Great, the stupid tail cap was the only thing stopping me getting one... so if the cap comes out before another great output medium size 18650 light, then I'll get one.

That's great Matt, glad to hear this new system is becoming reality. Do you think this new tail will be sold strictly as an accessory or could there be a new M30 kit in the works?
When your done with your "sample" perhaps you could let me "sample" it as well for a review (along with an M30 haha)... wishful thinking I guess. Take care Matt, thanks for the timely update.

Excellent! I love my M30 but the tailcap has been a constant headache! I look forward to hearing when this becomes available.

I can't wait either, hence this thread. I'm thinking about biting the bullet temporarily and ordering the M30 and perhaps throwing the tail cap on a lathe and "smoothing out" those nasty teeth. The bare aluminum doesn't bother me.

I got the sample today. Works great and I've sent in an order so hopefully we'll have them in ~2 weeks. For now I've just ordered tailcaps but we're considering offerering a special version of the M30 kit with the smooth tailcap.

OfficerCamp - I see you're down in Fairfield - why not come up and check it out? We're at most an hour away in Essex...and the way most LEO's I know drive you'd be here in 40 minutes. We're ~5 minutes N of exit 65.

I'll post a pic tomorrow but basically it looks like the M30's pressure switch with a switch on the end instead of a cable
