I know what the lumen ratings are for stock mag bulbs running at the spec voltages:

But since many of you out there are running these bulbs over-voltaged - 3 cell bulb in 4 cell light, 4 cell bulb in 5 cell light, etc.

I wonder if anyone here has measured the bulb lumens of these running at higher voltages?

I know about these:

But Mag bulbs were not tested. I wonder if someone else has? Please share ... Thanks.

Once put a 2AA Mag bulb in a Solitaire driving it directly with a Li-Ion (10440). I can only say WOW. Unfortunately the Solitaire's refrector is now modded to take a LED and I cannot redo.

I think the bulb will probably not last very long :poof:

You have to take into consideration that those lumen figures may be pretty optimistic from the get go.. I think that "181" lumen on the 5 cell is based on FRESH out of the package alkaline cells, after a minute of running it's already quite a bit dimmer. SO.. if you were say, taking the 5 cell xenon bulb, and driving it on 6 NIMH cells for flatter discharge characteristics, probably results in ~200-225ish bulb lumen, give or take, just slightly brighter, or very similar to the way it is on 5 fresh alkalines, on 6 fresh alkalines, the risk of instaflash may be higher. Overdriving the 2 cell bulbs with 3 cells really doesn't work, they almost always blow, the 3 cell bulb on 4 cells is usually doable, also a higher risk of instaflash, the best overdrive that leaves some bulb life on the table is the 5 cell bulb on 6 NIMH or 2 Li-Ion.
