Fitting it onto the Fenix red filter was tricky. POpping out the red filter is easy, then put it in from the top, it should stick abit. Push too hard, it will fall thru, you have to get it just right. Once youre satisfied, epoxy it in place, neatly of course, you dont want excess epoxy blocking the light.
I think the result would be much greater with far more throw than the RC-C3, even more so in front of a Rebel. Obviously a lot of the utilitarian purpose gets tossed out the window, but in this case it's just a slip over which is a great idea. You can have your toy and use it for real too...
I did the same thing with a Nuwaii Q3. I was not impressed with the weird beam pattern. Turning the aspheric upside down however (convex side toward emitter) made for a real nice flood with little discernible hotspot.
I think a good way to clean up the beam a bit would be to rough up the Cree dome to turn it into a diffuser. Since it is at the source, it won't affect focus any and will affect throw by just a small amount - far less than a diffuser film under the aspheric (flat side) would.
