This is somewhat of a quick and dirty review - since it's mostly just an L1D/L2D with a different power source, I just had to do new pictures and meter readings and copy and edit most of the rest of the review... runtimes pending, of course, but I'm not expecting any big surprises...

I believe this is just the light I've been waiting for - I really like this one. Many of you know the Peak Caribbean has been my favorite small, easy to carry light. Thie P2D has replaced it and I believe there will be no going back. Considering the size, output, and versatility, I don't think this will be easy to beat.

Enjoy!

Thanks Doug! It was your site that got me into the flashlight thing in the first place. Later discovering CPF has a had a real negative affect on me.

I can no longer look at most consumer flashlights without cringing and my wallet seems much thinner...

Again, thanks for the reviews! Still love em!

:D

I think a lot of us found Doug's site and worked our way over here and into a love of lights.

Thanks so much for the review! It's always nice to see a new one. :grin2:

From the photo you have, I can see that Fenix still unable to mount a XRE at the CENTER, I guess that must be a very difficult process

That's funny - I JUST updated the review to mention that the emitter was very slightly off center. I figured someone would notice, and sure enough.....

Thanks again Doug.

I really like my L2D, having it in the single 123 form factor would be great. I wonder how it would be using RCR123 3.7v cells?

Edit: Just saw in another thread by member 'who' that only high, strobe and SOS using "rechargeables" [ I assume 3.7v]. Oh well...

I've got some RCR123 3.0v cells on the way. I'll post my impressions when they come in.

The emitter on the head that came with my P2D looked just about exactly like Doug's. I swapped it with my perfectly centered L1D head, and happy day. (though to be fair, the difference was very slight) If you're big on emitter-centering-perfection, it might be something to think about. To me, it wasn't significant.

Thanks again Doug. I was going to buy the Amilite T5, but this looks like it will fit better in my pocket. Thanks as always for coming out of a well deserved retirement to tempt us to shrink our savings accounts just a little bit more.

Ps. If a few of us promised to put a very nice tip in the tip jar (which we all should do anyway) would you consider a mini review of the D-mini?

Regardless, thanks so much again.

As always...THANKS DOUG!!!

I should have my P2D by tomorrow :)

Thanks again, Doug. I pulled the trigger on the P2D instead of the Amilite even though the Amilite is sexier.

I wonder: The "half-turn the head" thing to switch modes: Is there some kind of detent to let you know when you're there and to keep the head in that position? I've seen these "turn the head" mechanisms on many lights and always wondered about that. If there's no detent, strikes me as kind of a hokey UI.

turn the light on and set the mode you want and the oring will hold it in place

While there is no tactile feedback when switching from General toTurbo, the head's fine threading is enough to prohibit it from slipping out of turbo.

There is no detent, but it takes much less than a half a turn.

The light has two paths of conduction for the electricity. One is through the threads, the other is from the end of the body tube to the head directly. When it's tightened down all the way (tight), the body contacts the head, juice flows through both paths, and it's in "turbo" mode. Loosen the head ever so slightly (like less than 15 degrees), it's no longer making contact directly, juice flows only through the threads, and the light's in "general" mode.

It's really easy to know which mode you're in, without turning on the light. Is the head tight? yes=Turbo, no=general.

:grin2:

Thanks for the comments, everybody. Dunno why I got a bee in my bonnet about this wrt the P2D. Heck, it's never been an issue with my MiniMags :).
