Anyways, Christmas is coming up. My brother has an old 6D mag he wont part with. I'd like to update it with a heatsink and a p7 or mc-e depending on what driver options will work best. The problem is I have to work within the limitations of the alkaline D's. My brother is the only person more irresponsible than... me. He probably won't buy a charger or remember to use it. How much current can I realistically get from the alkalines. I'm guessing a mc-e 2s2p setup might be best to reduce current demands. I'm curious to know if the alkalines can even provide that. But never mind my opinion. I want to know what you have to say.

if You have ever noticed my posts, You know my position:
led ONLY in series, parallel wiring is crap

with the 6D:
MC-E in series, SHARK (Sandwich Shoppe) or MaxFlex (Tasled) as driver
(MaxFlex more difficult to set up)
P7 with a driver that has the input range (7.2 V = made for 2 Li-Ion cells)

either would work, inside the Mag there is more than enough room, even for a driver that can power the P7 with its 2.8 A

Thanks Yellow. Thinking about what you've said a MC-E wired in series driven by a shark converter seems to be the best solution. I'm going to spend a bit of time looking into the shark, mc-e bins and heatsinks. I can't wait to set it up though.
