I bought 50 Panasonic batteries from one of the retailers on this site and the batteries are stamped 08-2018. Is this the expiration date?

The retailer told me the batteries are very fresh, if that number is the expiration date then my batteries are over a year old. To me that is not a battery that is "very fresh". Should I be concerned or just use the batteries to my hearts content?

Thanks

That is more or less the shelf life of the cells. They will most likely have 80% capacity remaining at the end of the dated shelf life. Most brands place a 10 to 15 year span on them.
Your cells should be fine, store them propery and they will be good to go when needed. If your using them in multicell devices please check them and match them up before using.

That date is usually what I call the use by date. Since these are Panasonic they should store up to several years without losing much capacity. If you are that worried, start loading your lights and use them to your hearts content.

That might be the date of manufacture and not the "use by" date. Most cells has the "use by" date marked on the batteries but some has the manufacture date instead. Battery Station cells come to mind, Panasonic might be the same.

The date on a CR123 should be 10yrs from now but I don't think there are any with 2020 on them yet.

The latest I've seen were the Surefire CR123's that came in my LX2 which had 2019 on them.

I ordered Duracell CR123's from BatteryJunction mid December came with 2017 on them which was slightly disappointing.

:oops:Not the date of manufacture in this case as the date is 08-2018

DOH!

I thought i read 2008 on the OPs post. In that case, that would be the "use by" or "best before" date.
