Jake, can you give us some idea of what kind of distance you want to illuminate? Most of the PAR38 stuff would be satisfactory for close in work, but I would not use anything off the shelf if you need some distance.
One of those (expensive) LED floods would probably work better for distance. I would try to make one myself before throwing a lot of money at one of those high power flood type. A couple of transformers, a good thick piece of aluminum, and some P4's or better in a stripped out old floodlight would work as good as some of the premanufactered stuff IMO.
