I am a little bit anal about performance of anything i own so have decided to store my Li Ion batteries in a small Peli case in the freezer. Having searched the forum i have so far understood that for room temp storage 40% is good but in the freezer i can store them fully charged? Is this the correct assumption?

From Battery University:

"Keep batteries in a cool and dry storage area. Refrigeration is recommended but freezers should be avoided. When refrigerated, the battery should be placed in a plastic bag to protect against condensation"

That said, I'd keep them in the fridge. I don't think you have to worry about the plastic bag since the Pelican is watertight.

Yeah, freezing batteries, especially Li-Ion's, isn't a good idea. It depends on how cold your freezer is, but freezing can damage the lattice structure in the cells. I seem to remember damage occurring around 0 degrees F. My freezer is -20F.

Unless you live in a really hot and humid area, storing them in a fridge would be overkill for all practical purposes.

I agree 100% on fridge storage, just make sure they're in a moisture proof container or ziplock bag.

I have often wondered about the "do not freeze" philosophy.

I would guess that there is little chance of a controlled environment while these cells are stored and shipped, prior to our possession.

They may be frozen and thawed more than once before a consumer sees them

Does anyone know if special care is taken with li-ion cells before we see them?
