Kiessling and Chief, I've gotta ask... what would you guys consider the "optimal" beam characteristics for a doctor's penlight?

Hmmm...well all the docs I've shown it to seem to like it. However, the beam is markedly square from the die. I attempted to offset this by moving the optic out away from the emitter ala Larry /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. That helps, but it's still square.

On a whim I took the optic out completely and was rewarded with a beautiful even spill beam albeit much dimmer. The good doctor wasn't home to evaluate that one though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif When I asked her about the shape she told me she didn't care, only that it had to be as white as possible.

milky:
the optimal MD-light would be:
- watertight, or name it "blood-, spittle- and vomit-tight"
- pen-shaped for easy deployment
- well-defined not too-wide beam so that moving the beam in and out of the patients eyes can provide a quick change in light intensity to verify the reactions of the pupil
- long running, youo do not carry spares at work
- momentary on or clicky
- common batteries, your hospital has nothing other in stock
- as white as possible
- reasonably bright to look into someone's mouth but not too bright for the eyes of the victim/patient
- not too extraordinary look to prevent it from being stolen
- beam quality itself is not too important, meaning a square beam is just as fine as a round one
- flood or throw is not important either
- but a clip is
well ... that's it. and when you look at this marvel, you can understand why I am drooling /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bump.... I saw Kiessling's review. Very good results from the Penlux!

Just curious Cheif, but are you making these and how much are they?

Hey Aaron,

These lights take me a long time to make and are a lot of work. I have a few other things I need to finish first, but if you are a physcian please PM me. I'll try and help you out.
