I just played with the Petzl Myo headlamp:

It has one 3W Luxeon, has three and a half brightness settings:
The switch just changes 0-3-2-1-blinking-0 and it has one additinal button for a 'boost' mode which is limited to some 20 seconds.
They claim that the light reaches some 65m in boost mode, however they define that.
Edit: They state thats the distance where you still have 0.25lx
They say runtime on 3 AAs is 70/90/170 hours on levels 3/2/1.
I don't think it is regulated.
But the most interesting functions are:
You can switch in between flood and spot and it has a fuel gauge. A led changes from green to orange to red when the battery gets empty. The main beam flickers when the fuel gauge changes colour (as it is a headlight you will not see the fuel gaube under normal circumstances).
It is pretty nice and small, battery pack is in the back. It has 99g without batteries.
Spot is similar to an Arc4, a little bit wider.
It seems to be rainproof, but not waterproof.

a battery indicator !!!!!
how badly I want that for ALL my lights ...

thanx for sharing!

so .. is this PWN dimming of a DD light like the LionHeart? Or how are all those functions implemented?

Will it run on L91 lithium AAs?

And ... most important ... would you recommend it?

Thanks for the info.

I have a few questions, though.

Is it on the market yet? If not, do you know when?
Any word on how much it will cost?
Does it have an external heatsink?

I am interested in a headlamp and was waiting for the Action Light III from HDS. Maybe this may be a better purchase for the time being. Would you recommend it?

Thanks.

No. Yes I know when, Yes there was a word on the cost .-) and no, it has no external heatsink.

It should hit the market next year (in between Jnauary and December) and they expect it to cost 65 Euro (including 20% sales tax).
Of course I asked about the LiFe cells, but the guy has no idea about.
Will pester him again today, his booth is only 50 feet from mine.

It plays in a completely different league as the ActionLight III.

It is a small, unregulated light with not very good spacing in between the levels, no visible heatsinking, not waterproof. And even with fresh batteries onyl a fraction of the AL III in brighness (maybe 15-20lm w/o boost).
But it is stylish. You probably know how the Petzl Myo lights look like.

Just found an image:

Another edit: Price should be a little bit lower than the PETZL MYOBELT5, so look for this price at you favorite Petzl dealer.
And 've heard that it should appear next spring.

Hello PeLu,

That looks like an interesting light.

The figure of 0.25 lux at 65 meters works out to about 1056 lux at 1 meter or 32.5 throw on Doug's (Quickbeam) chart.

Interesting marketing rating it to 0.25 lux. I wonder if there is anything significant about that level.

There is something about it on their website.
Today I did a beamshot (compared with the Arc4 Rev1).

On it has some more interesting features: When you switch it on on any level and leave it there for some time (not shure how long, but not more than half a minute) the next click will switch it off.
And the second button for the boost mode works if the light is switched on or off. That means, when the light is switched off, the boost button could be used for signalling.

As usual with headlamps, you can tilt the head up and down to adjust the angle. When you turn it up completely, the two buttons are covered to prevent accidential activation.

I tried it today, the boost mode really switches down to a lower one after the 20 seconds.

Main drawbacks are that it is not regulated and the level spacing is not very good.

That's some good info.
Are you working a trade show or something?
How did you find this out and get to see it?

I still can't believe they would try and run a 3 watt LED without an external heatsink. I guess that's why it will only "boost" for a sew seconds.

completly off-topic, but it was a rescue show, all organisations, vendors which have any relationship to rescue (and police, firemen, water rescue, red cross. military).
Not as many flashlights as I hoped to see, but quite a few. I had my booth next to Petzl.

Exactly. After this time it switches back and it will not run it at 3W anyway. But the Petzl guy instisted that it is a 3W LED.
And I wonder how it will behave with LiFe cells.

The beamshot (I only had a few seconds to do it).

Arc4 on level 2 versus Petzl Myo XP on boost:

beamshot

As I wrote in that other thread, the Myo XP has the very same interface as the PT Eos.

And because one person mentioned that he/she does not like an addional strap running over the head:
The Myo XP offers one as an acessory, so you may use it or not, depending on your application. Look at the holes for it.
