I recently dug up my old Petzl Zoom. You know, that fossil of a headlamp that can take all kinds of abuse for ten years and still work.
Now I was hoping to combine this "miner's look" with LED technology. So far I found the Terralux TLE-1S drop in (screw in) LED replacement but I was wondering what the beamshot would look like and if it really would be an improvement. This bulb can be had for roughly $13 on the bay. Does anyone here have a beamshot for me?
A new smaller LED Petzl headlight (tikka or likewise) would cost a bit more and would probably be the way to go for most people, putting the zoom in a box in the attic to look at from time to time and remember the old days. (When a 3D maglite with a krypton bulb was th best.) But I'd really like to keep using my zoom, I want a bit more power from it, longer battery life and preferably at low/very low costs ($15 or so tops.)
And if you're wondering what I want to use it for: night fishing on the beach mainly. Salt water, sand, fish slime and all other sorts of outdoor goodness I really don't want to smear all over a tiny little high-tech LED headlamp.
