I have been in touch with CNI following the disapointment of the last batch from Shiftlock.

They have offered me a batch of x4 of the 100mw models. They apprently don't have a model higher than this but they have offered that all will be at least 150mw.

I have no means of measuring these lasers as my meter only limits to 70mw - so I'll be using CNI's measurement value attached to each laser. The cost is £280 + another £25 for shipping.

I'll be placing the order next Monday (17th) - is anyone interested? There are upto three up for grabs - I will be taking the highest value and the rest are for first come gets higher power basis.

Re: PGL-III Order (Europe Only)

Doesn't CNI rate the power 20-30+ mw over what it really is?

Re: PGL-III Order (Europe Only)

The only proof of that we have is from shiftlock, so we can't be sure. I think they probably rate the maximum power achieved over the powerup cycle. Either way, their rating is fairly good, I doubt a large corporation like this would be selling falsely advertised products. Not to mention the fact that once you get to 150mw+, 30mw either way is basically invisible.

Yeah I read that also...I suppose I can only take their word for it...I don't think it will be much visual difference however.

Hi lasermodifier,

I still haven't managed to get one yet but do count me in, check your email /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: PGL-III Order (Europe Only)

Gonna have to skip this one. Really wish that I could but I've been spending too much on leadlights and a meter. (Mine only goes to 70 also so I can't help with the readings sorry!) I do have the money but I really can't be spending it on something that expensive until I've got a bit more cash. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/broke.gif

Oh well, some day....... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

We could have had an extreme version of star wars combat lol /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: PGL-III Order (Europe Only)

It's really too bad you don't ship to Canada where we don't have the same FCC/criminal laws as the states... Because I'd probably get one too

Re: PGL-III Order (Europe Only)

OK, the first and second picks appear to have been taken...there is one left.

Re: PGL-III Order (Europe Only)

Dont worry Bond007 we can still do it soon./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/xyxgun.gif Once I've got a bit of cash! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Next couple of months.
You live near Bury? Small world eh?

Re: PGL-III Order (Europe Only)

Right the PGL-III's are generating a lot of interest..there is still one left...I will ship outside Europe if you pay for the extra shipping and insurance. I can only place the order when I receive all payments. If all goes well I may get another batch...we'll see.

Re: PGL-III Order (Europe Only)

Guys ... this thread reads more than a little bit like a group buy ... I recommend starting those things in the appropriate forum in the future.

I know where you mean.
Wierd!
I lived in Bolton until only a few years ago. I've lived in Bromley Cross and Edgeworth and now I'm living in Tottington. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Strange how we can come on a forum for people from all over the world and still find someone whos living down the road!

Re: PGL-III Order (Europe Only)

so how much is that in American dollars? I may want to buy one for a friend in Denmark. Can we work that out?

Re: PGL-III Order (Europe Only)

576 USD - That is to your door-step.

Re: PGL-III Order (Europe Only)

Seeing that you're in Europe, are they going to send you the model with the adjustable power output (which is not FDA approved) or the model that is FDA approved? I know someone who lives in the UK who ordered a PGL-III recently and received the original kind with the adjustable power output. Please check on this, as I'm curious.

If this is the kind without the adjustable power output, then my guess is that these lasers will indeed be very powerful, since they'll probably be from the batch of 20 extra-powerful units that were originally put aside for me (since I've informed CNI that I will no longer be ordering from them).

If they are the adjustable-power style, then they have great potential to be modified to over 300mW. I have an original PGL-III that is running at just over 300mW, being overdriven with a Pila Li-Ion battery. Although, a modification to the (unregulated and very accessible) driver board would be a better way to achieve higher power.

In any case, these lasers are a steal at the price LaserModifier is selling them at.

However, DO NOT believe the piece of paper that comes from CNI for the power output. Most PGL-III's put out far less than the paper indicates, some put out more, and very occasionally the paper is spot on correct. Overall, it's just a completely inaccurate indication of the power output, and I have no idea why that is. Trust me on this - I have many laser power meters, some that measure up to 100 watts, and I have measured over a dozen PGL-III's.
