Anyone try the 100watt Pilot lights that you can pick up in stores like Autozone, Pep boys, etc?

I tried some last week, returned them the next day. OK output, decent construction, but I'm hoping for 4 lights and I don't like the idea of 400W all at once on my truck's electrical system.

Anybody know how these lights compare to other brand's incan lighting?

On a seperate note, those Kragen/Rugged Ridge/Hid X HID lights... has anyone compated the 2 versions that are out? One is square-ish, the other looks more like an incan off-road light. yes, i know it's the same company, probably fairly cheap, but mainly curiosity.

Pilot is cheap junk from China or Taiwan...not worth the money. As to the HID lights, have never used them but have looked them over, and would never part with my hard earned dollars for them...they are cheaply made.

Buy lights of quality...you always get what you pay for. (I'm using Hella 500 FF series fog and driving lights with Narva Rangepower +50 H3 55W (excellent output BTW) lamps and find them to be well made...not the best but a good value for the money.)

I just took off my 500FF's last week. After running them for almost 6 months (yes, with those same bulbs) I decided they didn't do much for me. For whatever reason, with my stock high-beams, the Hella's don't add enough extra light for me to carry them around. So... back to the trial and error board. Thinking of selling my Amber Piaa 520's.

Thanks for the heads up on those HID's. They're not sold local that I can find, so not able to check them myself.

I've been using a set of the HIDx 4" lights for 2 years or so and they've worked fine.
I did have a major complaint with the temperature of the bulb at first and tinted the lenses to selective yellow; I like them much more with yellow-ish light rather than blue-ish.
The cheap HID lights will almost always have too much blue and the HIDx/RuggedRidge/O'Rielly are no exception.

As for build quality, I don't find them and worse than 95% of what's on the shelves anywhere anymore.
Which is more of an indictment of the trend of industry in general than a nod toward their quality...

Now regarding the Hella 500, I never liked them and have a set on a shelf that I took off the Jeep when I put the HIDx set on.
I do like the Hella 4000 though but found that out too late.
